I sometimes think abt that time Yale asked me to do an expedited-promotion-to-full review for a guy who’d just gotten tenure, who’d been out on rsch leaves for 3yrs, had maybe taught 3 classes in the past 6yrs β€” and who was being poached by another Ivy. I realized: oh, you’re not hiring *colleagues*

It’s not disingenuous to point out that the NYT did not run a single front page story of the Minab bombing. You don’t dispute this claim because it’s true. And the story that you reference on your webpage does not attribute blame to US/Israel and frames it as an allegation by β€œIranian state media”

I'm baffled at how little attention the 2024 Israeli invasion-bombing-assassination campaign in Lebanon is getting as people analyze how we got into this war. What factor (more significant than US reticence, imo) kept Israel from fighting a regime-change war in Iran before now? Hezbollah.

In "The Borders of Responsibility," @kirisanter.bsky.social outlines the legal systems that allow Europe to return migrants who cross the Mediterranean to their countries of origin and to evade legal responsibility for rescuing them. Read the intro for free: buff.ly/wLzdbX6

Lebanon is a tiny country, making these "evacuation" orders little more than a mass forced displacement designed 2 collectively punish & terrorize the pop. These "area bombardments" r also completely prohibited under intl law as indiscrim attacks that are not directly at specific military objects.

It is amazing to me that the US has just launched its biggest most illegal war since Iraq 2003, that has killed over 1000 Iranian civilians, and that is reverberating around the region and world and still, STILL, most people on this app are oblivious to it. This is a deeply self-absorbed country

The former Palace of the Senate, an architectural icon of Tehran, has been almost completely razed. Built in the 1950’s by Heidar Ghiyayee, it was the seat of the Upper Chamber in the Pahlavi period, for a short while the seat of the IRI Majlis, and then that of the Khobregan Council. Horrible!

Palestine Diaspora Movement

Hello [REDACTED]
We do not collaborate with The New York Times.
Your email asks about money sent to Gazan families "since the war in Gaza began." Let us first correct the premise. This is not a war. It is a genocide. Calling it a war is part of the problem. It obscures the reality of a colonized people being massacred by a military machine backed by the United States and defended, sanitized, and rhetorically softened by institutions like yours.
The New York Times has spent far too long parroting Zionist propaganda and laundering Israeli state narratives while Palestinians bury their dead. That kind of coverage does not merely misinform. It helps create the political climate in which Palestinian slaughter becomes explainable, defensible, and forgettable.
So no, we will not be sharing any figures, internal data, or community information with a paper that has so thoroughly damaged its credibility on Palestine. Quite frankly, we would rather chew jeans than help The New York Times extract from our community while continuing to fail it.
Do not contact us again for this purpose, The Palestine Diaspora Movement Team

It's absolutely surreal how no one is talking about the Iran war in daily life. No one is discussing it and they seem oblivious. This conflict is spiraling and deteriorating in a way that it will substantially disrupt daily life for most of the world for the first time in decades.

Fun update on National Endowment for the Humanities fellowships: they have to focus on "American history and culture and Western civilization." Sinologists et al. are no longer welcome.

It's genuinely insane that many of the newspaper columnists who cheered us into the war in Iraq are still employed at big legacy outlets cheering us into a new war with Iran.
