Pedofascism is like that... Pedophilia for them, fascism for you.

One enables the other. They're all metastases of the infamous Powell Memo: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewis_F...
The AI will ethically calculate the budget for the bomb that goes to blow up the schoolgirls.
They are playing cookie clicker with us as the NPCs.
Admittedly I see it less in programming, where the stakes are so much lower, what with the ladder being "you spend 8 hours a day in a debugger at a bank" < "you spend 8 hours a day in a debugger at a medical equipment company" < "you spend 8 hours a day in a debugger at a video game studio".
"We only need to pay you for the parts where you're touching an object, right?"
Every John Oliver episode is another thing that they'll never fix.
The French is wrong too but yeah... Any time the Arabic letters don't even connect, you know they messed up.
- Memetic decline theory: Ideas stay present in a culture either because they are true and useful, or because of self-propagating characteristics such as stroking people's egos. The balance of useful vs viral ideas declines over time, leading to things like the Byzantine empire's sterile academia.
- David Graeber's "Bullsh** jobs" theory : The rise of productivity per worker is compensated by an increase in bureaucratic chaos and work that looks like work but accomplishes little in practice.
- "MMT Piketty": Idem but specifically about paper wealth. Wealthy people like nominal wealth more than real goods. The gov't deficit-spends to compensate. This makes the real economy less unequal than the paper economy - but with a rising mountain of IOUs. It's "stable" if the IOUs are never spent.
There's a few different theories as to why we're hitting a wall now:
- Thomas Piketty: Wealth concentrates in fewer and fewer hands, as long as return on investment > real growth. Eventually catastrophic events like WW1/WW2 bring back the balance through destruction of that wealth and confiscations.
These things flip between technological eras. Population was generally under control in the hunter gatherer era. Then it went totally out of control in the agricultural era. And then it went back under control in the industrial era, and has gotten too much in control lately yes.
We're good at getting ourselves into the "monkey paw" type of situation, where immediate solutions to problems eventually get counter balanced by vicious cycles... The classic one was the Malthusian catastrophe, and thank God we've dealt with that one, but it took like 4000 years.
The patricians want a dictatorship.
Just saw that Yanis Varoufakis now faces faces criminal prosecution for talking about using ecstasy once in his youth. We're in very real trouble.
Judge: Which spices are in there?
Indian chef: Yes.
The characters used to transliterate words with Japanese i1 came from the 4th row of Chinese rhyme tables, and those with i2 came from the 3rd row. We think it was a front/back distinction in palatal glides, but it all merged together and is really hard to reconstruct.
Incidentally, there's a nugget of truth in there. They got mad that we could take away their industries when they gave people cancer. And in response, they made bribery legal through the Powell Memo and ultimately Citizens United, so that we could never again snatch their double digit profit babies.
Kinda feel like they're buying the appearance of culture rather than culture itself... But yeah it sucks to see a major event essentially bought and taken by some hands that can potentially go cynical very quick.
Looking at the programming and creative communities I'm in, and I concur, the tone has very much changed lately. Nobody talks about "rising tides" anymore. Everybody feels betrayed, especially in the last year for obvious reasons.
I hope never to find out!
Sounds like it's not using Ocean's later tracker-based music engine. 🤔
I guess they "know" animation the same way the Threat Interactive guy "knows" 3d graphics programming.
There's a real inflection point after 1300, what with the Latinate vocabulary disappearing, where it goes from "English in its hardest form" to "wayward German dialect with half the sounds changed for þ". I suspect someone who knows Dutch would fare better.
They want a world where grift, blue blood and duplicitous cowardice is rewarded, and where creativity, honesty and generosity is punished.
People misunderstand why they like new tech. In retrospect, it's been because of new options in overall look and thus art direction. More polygons are pointless if it looks the same.
And Animation is SO important. I wish we had more options for great looking low budget anim other than pixel art.
