Pose studies are just for fun.
I dont take them seriously all the time, but they're helpful for seeing and getting an idea of how anatomy is connected in areas.

When I do studies in 3D, I try and do some observation with my reference when I first start.
Main things are such as:
LOA
Balance
Pinch + Stretch
Simple vs Complex
Directionality
Negative shapes
Etc.
This just helps me as a rough observation before going in that I know roughly how things are.
The main thing I look for is
"Would I have this as a figure on my desk" - Ideology from Laura Lico.
And I try and use that idea when doing my studies/thinking what I want when posing.

This was an interesting one as you cant fully gain an idea of what is going on without any context, so to me I wanted to push the directionality and make things more clear.
Even though part of the essence of pose has changed, it does make for a nice idea in areas.
God itβs been a while since using maya and an auto rigger in maya. I forget how they look now that I use blender for personal workβ¦

When I do timed pose studies it does depending on how I feel about things.
Sometimes Ill take creative changes and change certain parts of the pose, but more than most I will be looking at storytelling.
While the pose hasn't changed MUCH, it has at least changed the intent of the pose in areas.

Not a whole lot in the works right now, mainly studies and making documents for myself and others on things I do when working :)
Will try storyboarding various things, just waiting on a model to be rigged, then dabble in some other models on my other accounts for fun :D
Ah Im a big fan of your work honestly and have been for a while hahaha, so that means a lot to hear
I think animating large clumps of hair manually, with a bit of simulation on smaller strands while manually cleaning up from those tools are handy, mainly for getting the rough collisions from the large strands to small, and then just going in and refining as you say. I guess just layering detail :)

I tend to always hand animate a lot, but I do find hair to be finicky, especially in longer sequence stuff, so been looking for some tools to just help in areas where im not focusing on hair animation too much :)
OUT OF INTEREST, I know you mentioned simulations in comments, but how did you go about animating the hair? :0

I will need more time for composition as that is a different subject to posing a 3D character
But Ill get around to that eventually. Since I still need to understand and learn more camera work properly myself!

This is why I always appreciate folks like yourself who are testing things to try and get these results, itβs a lot of trial and error and problem solving at the same time. Iβm sure whatever your working on will come out looking great, but people forget the BTS stuff is always infuriating at times
Whenever I hear about making things work from blender to Unity it always makes me grateful at times im just an animator than anything else.
Unity always gave me a headache trying to solve things and this sounds no different.
Im glad youve found a point where youre satisfied with the results though!

God I love charborgs video so much, theres just a charm to them.
The unhinged level of chaos the chair caused was incredible
i have my water and timer at hand with new glasses to make sure i take breaks and dont wear my glasses too long to cause too much pain π
god it always is the worst
I always forget whenever I get new glasses, and just despise the experience a little more each time

Been busy with work.
So just took a couple hours out of today to carry working on this a bit more.
Still needs me animating more body parts to get it working/flow nicer.
It'll get there, then I can animate easier sequences.
