This is pretty cool.
It's a visualisation of the internals of The Sentinel on the #BBCMicro.
This is it generating the game landscape for the first level from 256 pseudo-random numbers.
Next week I'll be releasing a deep dive into exactly how this works.

Field-FX 2026: 16th - 19th July 2026, United Kingdom π¬π§ @field-fx.party
A trio of floppy disks: a big 8" disk, a fairly ordinary 5.25" disk for PCs, and an Apple FileWare (aka Twiggy) disk.
Do you have 5.25" and 8" floppy disks that are spare, low-quality, degrading, or just generally in bad shape?
I'd like to take my floppy disk data recovery game to the next level. I have equipment, but there's no substitute for experience.
I might be able to rustle some up. I'll have a rummage and get back to you!
I'm releasing over 50 deep dives into The Sentinel, Geoff Crammond's epic #BBCMicro game.
Batch #1 is now ready: 6 new articles about memory maps, program flow and interrupts, all at thesentinel.bbcelite.com/deep_dives
Batch #2 (maths!) coming soon.
Enjoy!

Nice to see modern engines for retro consoles, complete with tooling: "Pyrite 64 : N64 Game-Engine and Editor". It appears like the N64 is graphically quite more capable than what I expected: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BCm...
This weeks #throwbackthursday has to be the Acorn BBC Master 128 as it celebrates 40 years!
In February 1986, Acorn Computers released the BBC Master 128 microcomputer, the successor to the hugely popular BBC Micro.
Swipe to end for BBC AIV!

I'm fairly convinced at this point that the secret to longevity is a nice hot shower. In 2024, I went to @revision-party.bsky.social for one and wrote a song about it...

If you have a Master then you're better off buying a Gotek rather than an SD card solution. The SD cards use hacked filing system ROMs and can interfere with PAGE (available RAM). Gotek is 100% equivalent to using a floppy drive, which the Master is already configured for, unlike Model B.
Speaker submissions are now open until Wednesday 11 February! Find out more and submit here: www.developconference.com/get-involved... #developconf
The first level in The Sentinel
The first level in The Sentinel showing grid points for panning and the first screen in red
Have you ever wondered how big the full landscape is in The Sentinel?
It's 1856 pixels high and 2048 pixels wide.
Here's the first level. The initial 192x160 screen is in red. Panning jumps the view to different grid points.
It's a big old world!
#retrocomputing #retrogaming #bbcmicro #c64 #8bit
Sounds amazing already! Great work. π
Very much a work in progress, but quite a while ago @h0ffman.bsky.social shared his .1tm file for 1-Bit High and Rising. The intention was to port the Z80 Squeeker Plus engine to the 6502, but it proved to be difficult... until now.
Pitch is wrong.... but it's finally playing . More work to do! π
