What's most amusing is that my gut feeling is that YouTube needs to disincentivize AI slop not for human concerns, but because Google trains Gemini on YouTube - and recursive training quickly increases modal collapse concerns. They need a primarily human dataset.

Thank you to everyone who attended the talks I hosted for #AirCon25. Speaking in front of a total of 400+ people across two conferences in the space of 10 days has been an interesting part my year so far. I hope we helped or guided your attendees with our talks and interviews π

Why are we the only ones expected to compromise? Meanwhile the industry is moving on, and whether I like it or not big labels are now looking at licensing deals. I am not sure what its going to take for the both to realize what they are offering is just a terrible deal for everyone, especially us.
Delighted that #Safe is now available on @amazonprime.bsky.social.

So I have heard! :)
I instinctively was about to jump into music design chat with the world 'loop' xD
But you mean gameplay - staying in my lane! ;)
Very much agreed, voting for them is completely out of the question. Speaking to my peers and colleagues the feeling is very much mutual, its been a crushing disappointment.
When is it going to sink in with MP's Byrant and Kyle what they are proposing suits absolutely no one. I hope they gain some common sense and stop defending the indefensible.
Smashing work by Baroness Kidron as always!
New column! The systematic theft of creative works to train AI will have a devastating impact on Brighton's authors, filmmakers, musicians, artists, photographers and game developers.
Govt should protect homegrown talent, not cater to the demands of tech giants.

When I was at the start of my career just hearing people way, way further ahead than me just commentate out loud what they were doing was extremely helpful. I learned more in 2 weeks than I did 5 years at uni.
Very pleased to be speaking at the Airwiggles conference next month!

Agreed, that would be a good start :)
We really need to seriously discuss why we have given so much of the public realm over to cars, rather than return it to people, its ruining the city. Walking around Brighton is down right dangerous, and that needs to change now, not later.
I do find this quite odd, the pavements in Brighton are in a dreadful state, and an unacceptable level of the public realm given over to motor traffic. I am not sure what Brighton this is talking about because its certainly not the one I live in.
A seafront road filled with children and adults cycling towards the camera, in the sunshine and a bright blue cloudless sky. Rising from the centre of the horizon is the i360 vertical pleasure ride.
#KidicalMass in Brighton & Hove today set new records - hundreds of children and adults came along, to call on the council to make everyday cycling easier across the city.

Two days to go
Saw your excellent film at the Uk Film Festival at the end of last year, wish I had had the chance to say so in person! Excellent to see it at more festivals!
Was about to say Daaaaaaaaahhhhmn, gemme some of that sweet sweet transport!
That can't be a train with Herman Miller chairs - surely?
It is a big mystery why on earth Brighton doest at least have a LEZ.
Although I do have my issues with this, its a great step in the right direction. I hope all of Brighton looks like this in the very not too distant future.
Oddly spotless for a vehicle thats meant to be driven off road!
Oh 100%. I was showing Ran to some friends awhile ago and I kept yelling 'Look! They ACTUALLY did that!' - such a shame I feel so compelled to point that out every 5 minutes!
Love RAN, maybe the most apocalyptic feeling film of all time. I could gush for days about Toru Takemitsu's score as well.
Has 'I would play the heck out of this' written all over it! I can see many hours on the sofa with the steam deck here, looks fantastic!
But what do you do with the wrapper once your done? There are only two types of people ;)
There is always Develop in Brighton, which I have found to be a significantly more impactful conference, at least for me. I am also not a fan of San Francisco, would rather GDC was held somewhere like Montreal.
"If we aren't allowed to steal, a lot of thieves won't make any money," warned a thief.
"Won't someone think of all the mediocre content?!" wailed another.
"These words and pictures are out in public for my eyes to see," cried another, gesticulating wildly. "Are my eyes STEALING?!"
Excited to announce I am NOT attending GDC this year!
Seriously though, contract timings are not sympathetic at all for me leaving my desk. I will miss catching up with old friends, but I will of course be at Develop in Brighton later in the year, so hopefully I can make up for it then.
