Very exciting to see the commitment to the Global Biodata Coalition and the important work that they do.

🦠 This #PictureOfTheWeek is spirulina alga, a type of cyanobacteria. They've been around for 3.5 billion years, survived countless world changes, and helped oxygenate the planet through photosynthesis. Listen to our last broadcast to find out what they can teach us about resilience. buff.ly/NoEML3k
Have you signed up for the AI in Biocuration workshop on Feb. 9th? This is free to all, you don't need to be an ISB member to attend. See more details: www.biocuration.org/events/biocu...
Really excited for this paper come out. Very impressive to see this community come together, and I would love to see others use it as a framework to address these common issues.
FlyBase needs your help! We ask that European labs continue to contribute to Cambridge, UK FlyBase, whereas US and other non-European labs can contribute to US FlyBase. For more information and how to donate: wiki.flybase.org/wiki/FlyBase...
Second, check out Andy Beshear. You may hear a lot more from him in the coming years.
For comparison...
First, a quick guide to visiting Lexington, KY:
1. Wear blue, not red
2. Visit my sister-in-law's coffee shop The Greenery (Erin's the one feeding the Governor Alanis lyrics)
Congrats @tiagolubiana.bsky.social !
@cmungall.bsky.social had me at "structured data nerd". Great perspectives from Chris & @anshulkundaje.bsky.social
Right? Can't we enjoy the game in absence of a black box model developed by a TV station that has nothing to gain by practicing statistical rigor but benefits from sensationalism & drama?
Highly recommend Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari. Refreshing take on the potential of AI by relating it to innovations, movements & information systems throughout history.
...so read that, watch The Mitchells vs the Machines, and you should be all set for the Age of AI
Another fun CELLxGENE update from this week: We now support ATAC-seq fragments files. You can download the fragments file for all unpaired scATAC-seq datasets and many multiome datasets. More ATAC-seq features (and data) are coming. Happy #DNADay!
Big CELLxGENE news! No longer just human & mouse data.
Now supported: #celegans #zebrafish #drosophila #rat #pig #rabbit and several non-human primates
Please see info on how to contribute data: cellxgene.cziscience.com/docs/032__Co...
"Fortunately, cellxgene classes follow an ontology, a robust structure that defines relationships among the labels." 😍
Very cool to see how they leveraged the ontological relationships to refine many labels!
So thrilled to see this incredible study published today. Led by some brilliant & amazing people and without these types of studies, any "human <fill in the blank> cell atlas" is destined to just be a "European/white human <fill in the blank> cell atlas".
The #GENETICS issue is now live! You'll find updates from 6 model organism databases & other knowledgebases including AgBioData Consortium, Candida Genome Database, @yeastgenome.bsky.social, SpudDB, Unified Phenotype Ontology, & @zfinmod.bsky.social.
What's on the cover? ⬇️🧵
A new chapter has begun for two of the world’s most popular preprint platforms, bioRxiv and medRxiv, with the launch of a non-profit organization that will manage them

Rare Disease Day
At #ASHG, we recognize the power of #humangenetics & genomics research in advancing rare disease diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy. In celebrating #RareDiseaseDay, let's push the boundaries of discovery and support the millions of people living with rare genetic conditions.
💜🌍 It’s Rare Disease Day! 🌍💜
Tonight, let’s shine a light for the 300 million people living with a rare disease, including Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT).

Prior to the #Biocuration Careers workshop at the #Biocurtation2025 conference, we are conducting a survey of biocurators and data stewards about their jobs. Please respond here: forms.gle/DJ7irabs27em...
Embarrassed & ashamed to only just now learn it's #LoveDataWeek. Promise to do better next year. Until then, a corpus of 100M+ cells (and growing) of single-cell expression data, all with raw counts & standardized metadata, and all openly available? That's a lot to love. cellxgene.cziscience.com
Wonderful to see @kendraturkkubo.bsky.social & other friends and colleagues from my grad lab get recognized for their incredible work.
Thrilled to share PERFF-seq in its final form, where we expand on its sensitivity, applicability, and more! I’m so grateful for the all-star crew (brought together by @caleblareau.bsky.social) that made this happen!! Read thread below for more! 🎉
Demiltons have discussed some possibilities (mutated bird, splashing whale) but requires further investigation. Please send cut & cooked cookies.
Open science, data sharing, standards, etc. posts will come. But for now, I just gotta say that the fam has been loving Overcooked 2 on the Switch. Highly recommend, especially if you're looking for a safe space to throw tortillas at your spouse & yell at your kid for burning the rice.
Correct, CELLxGENE does not reprocess data. A big reason why contributors are motivated to submit is because the visualization will represent their analysis, their figures, etc.
CELLxGENE does not store any raw sequence data, so that would be kinda a different resource entirely.
I don't feel like I've been on @bsky.app long enough to get name-checked 😅
