I feel the "centre left" fixation with green parties is driven more from a sense of shame and resentment than it is from actual political expediency. Shame, that they can't even sell milquetoast greens proposals that should be a no brainer with voters. Resentment, that people are voting based on it.

I didn't really smell it before trying. It did have a disturbing, spongy, stringy sourdough-like texture which really should have tipped me off.

Imagine soy sourdough starter that lacks the acidity to be sourdough and is actually just a lucky dip of random bacteria. I've eaten some questionable shit and it was indisputably the worst thing I've ever had inside my mouth. I lost a part of my soul, that day.

I don't think "normies" are actually saying this? Foreign adventurism is pretty consistently unpopular? You don't need to go back to 1953 to see our track record "supporting modernity" is somewhat lacking, and I think most of the public, including a lot of the racists, understand it.

Who on earth would be the audience for their masturbatory neoliberalism? It would be no more than hundreds, surely - and those already amply served.

I've been Officially Vegetarian (with the occasional guilt filled, or socially convenient lapse) for a number of years now. And the longer it goes the worse I feel about those lapses. Options up here can be limited at times... I tried making my own soy yoghurt. Horrific. Worse than you could imagine

You don't see all the photos I delete! ;)

Yes they do, they are smaller and the jaw profile is quite different to great barracuda (who have a very pronounced underbite, and look like the junkyard dogs of the sea!)

Adorable!! I thought baby bamboo sharks were cute but this is even cuter!

Underwater photography without a strobe can be like waiting for lightning to strike, only you miss time and again. But when it strikes... Chevron barracuda, Sphyraena Qenie, have holes in their jaws allowing them to fully close their mouths, a rarer trait in fish than you might think. #๐Ÿฆ‘ #scuba

Goldstriped Sweet Lips (Plectorhincus chrysotaenia) at the magnificent Richelieu Rock in Thailand. An astonishing amount of sea life, soft corals, and an absolute mosh pit of divers (~100 in the water!). A complete circus, but circuses can be entertaining, too. #scuba #marinelife

Produce here in Singapore is mostly imported and mostly low quality. It's very frustrating coming from Australia. And the onions are particularly bad!

I despise her but fair play she's put out some epic burns on Jenrick.

They have no effective rebuttal because they cannot acknowledge that their neoliberalism has failed and that inequality has risen and things feel worse for many Australians - they are wedded to status quo and preserving their own existence, even as it gives birth to nascent fascism.

What's infuriating is that this has already happened in the UK and USA and most of Europe. And they are too busy sucking themselves off over Albo's election win - when he was headed for disaster until Trump got in.

I find it illustrative of how provincial and myopic aus media + labor are, that they are not talking about this as part of a global cultural collapse. Labor's commitment to wan neoliberalism leaves no space for effective rebuttal. Things are worse; they offer no alternative.

Honestly this sounds like some kind of JG Ballard masturbatory fever dream. I refuse to believe it's more than a sad creative writing exercise.

Whip coral goby (Bryaninops amplus). These little fellows are very difficult to photograph, they will scuttle around the whip coral avoiding you like it's a game of tag. Palau Hantu, Singapore. #scuba #marinelife #underwaterphotography

You're right, they soaked up a lot of protest vote as "outsiders", a status that has become harder to maintain over the years for Pauline.

I think ON support is multifactorial. Always higher under Labor govts; social media disinformation has mostly benefited reactionary politics; always softer come election day; and finally part of the global collapse of neoliberalism and the political systems supporting it. Both parties are punished.

If there is a single journalist in Australia prepared to do their jobs, he is seriously implicated in extreme corruption involving water buybacks and his brothers farm. Millions of dollars. There are other incidents, too. He is criminally corrupt I believe.

Already happening on the kindle store at scale. Bots are fed books on bestseller list to produce terrible AI knock offs that people buy from mistake; bots "buy" fake bot books to boost them up in the bestseller lists.

I find the dudgeon about principles frankly fucking laughable. This guy took bribes comprising tens of thousands of pounds worth of luxury goods, and didn't see any problem with it until it came out in the press.

It's also silly - Starmer is gone one way or another come the local elections; this isn't *why* he's gone, it's just another straw on a "beleaguered" camel's back lol.

Hmm, I would be more inclined to say, Twitter has the highest proportion of misinformation and other bots trying desperately to create an illusion of engagement.

Reddit is also crawling with bots, of course, but I think not quite so bad.

... I do think neoliberalism is collapsing and trending towards fascism (if indeed twas ever incompatible). And I do think social media misinformation is a problem. But, I don't see this "surge"as really emblematic of a global hegemonic change, and complaints about migrants are as old as Australia.

Yeah I think this really misses the first for the trees. 1) compulsory preferential voting has a huge effect on erasing outlier parties. 2) The racist protest vote has always surged under labor fed govts. 3) it's also notoriously soft and shrinks on polling day. Cont...

It's an ABC speciality that they use for literally every single change that happens with regard to literally anything. Complete abrogation of journalistic responsibility, just report on what "Discontented, Moonee Ponds" thinks. It's especially galling when astroturfing is so rife.
