Children of Time made me love Adrian Tchaikovsky as an author. Walking to Aldebaran made me want to hangout with him and devise a way to become his best friend. Exactly my kind of wit, mixed with a sci-fi story filled with cool original ideas. Did I mention it was hilarious? But not to the point where it became a comedy. It was like a normal sci-fi story, but it made you (or at least me) laugh a lot. Looking forward to the other books in this series, though I don't see them on Libby so I may never get to them.

Someone pointed out that these modules were actually for the Conan game, not D&D. I forgot because I used them for D&D.

This was short and interesting, but not very exciting (for me). The end was a little confusing and for shorter stories like this it's usually the "surprise" at the end that really makes the story, so maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it that much.
It was strange to see Sanderson's name on something that wasn't 600 pages. :)

I gave the first book in this series 3 out of 5 stars because I thought the first 20 hours or so were boring, but the last 10 were great. This one was just great all the way through. Really cool setup, great characters and lots of political intrigue with more magic being constantly added. The narrator is really great too if you're doing the audio.
At this point in the series, each member of the royal family is participating in some kind of adventure and the queen's story just keeps getting darker. The good guys seem to be in real trouble, so I'm very curious how good will conquer evil, or not.

Things are getting intense and I'm super curious how this all plays out. It must be incredible to coordinate this across so many titles with both the Axis event and Time Runs Out. I sometimes feel like I missed something, but it's still awesome.

I guess the fun thing about Spelljammer is that you could come up with all kinds of alien worlds to explore instead of just one.

Time is running out!!! For all of us. But especially for the people in the Marvel universe. With so much on the line these heroes have divided into groups and decided to beat the hell out of each other one last time before everything goes kablooey!
It's pretty dark and a hell of a lot of fun. I mean, who wins when 'the good guys always win", but it's the good guys vs the good guys? It's like when 2 football teams pray to the same god so they can win the game.
This volume ends with some harsh betrayals, but they're for the greater good right? We'll find out.

The book had a bunch of these tall rectangular pictures. I think they look better next to each other, like βthe worlds of Spelljammer!β.

If Magneto is present, you know things are going to be dark and angry. I've seen writers write Dr. Doom as occasionally funny, but I've never seen a comic that had Magneto just hanging out all chill and happy. This graphic novel is no different. He has anger management problems, seems fair seeing as he grew up in a concentration camp and he's a double minority Jew/Mutant. Still, when he calls Xavier "my friend" it somehow makes you immediately like and respect him. And he did save the day with all his villainous buddies from the past, so he can't be half bad right?
I read this as part of the Axis event and I like seeing the battle from more than one perspective, but it does get a little repetitive if you've read the other comics where this battle with Red Onslaught/Skull is playing out.

So when I posted the other Realms of Chaos I talked about who I combined WHFRP with 2nd edition D&D. Well I also created a system for warband fighting using D&D 2nd ed rules, but all the Warhammer background. So we would each create a warband and then I would create a battle scenario, then we would compete against each other. The wining champion would get chaos attributes and gifts etc... until they finally became completely corrupted.

When this came out (During the 3/3.5 era) it knocked my other favorite monster book (Fiend Folio) out of 1st place. The art totally blew me away, each entry had "hooks" and little silhouettes next to a human so you could get an idea of the size. Their dragons were so powerful they "blighted" the areas around where they lived! There were some cool classes in back too, even one that made stuff out of monster parts.
This book has come out 2 other times, but for me the original art is much better than the painted art in the other 2 (one for their own system and once for 5e).

When I started playing D&D, instead of giving me a list of races and classes, my DM told me "You can be whatever you want to be" and then he took that and created my character.
When I told my mom about the game I said the same thing. And she said, "I wanna be a donut." Because she loved donuts. I didn't know what to do with that.
Fast forward about 30 years and Low Life comes out. In this game you can play a sentient pastry (among other things).
Unfortunately, after killing off her first D&D character in less than 30 minutes, my mother never played another RPG. So she never got to be a donut.
Also shout out to Andy Hopp, who designed, wrote, illustrated and did the graphic design for the fabulous game. And thanks to my buddy Dayv Crane for running it for me and my wife one day long ago.

The crossovers are starting to get muddled but putting Magneto, the holocaust survivor against nazi Red Skull after all these years is a pretty great idea. Then add in Wanda (Scarlet Witch) and her daddy issues and you got quite a bit of drama going on here. Also, the annual is strange, meta, different, and sometimes hilarious.

So this was something different. I'm not as much into the meta/story about stories idea and definitely not a fan of kids hanging out at a strange school setting, but a fan of morbid children, and the dialogue was great. Also loved the "compass/map" idea about fantasy worlds. I was a little worried that this was going to be YA, but it gets mature pretty quickly.
I was really sad that my favorite character was the first do die in this multiple-murder mystery, since the 2nd book looks like it's a prequel, I'm hoping that character also gets a prequel story.
When I finished this I was thinking I wasn't going to continue the series, but then I read the synopsis for the 2nd book and that changed my mind.

Sometime in the late 80's I was into playing Warhammer Fantasy Battle and also adapted rules from Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay into 2nd ed D&D. It always amazed me how different the 2 games were. WFRP felt so much more gritty than D&D, they were both great, just different experiences. So I tried to blend them together.
This book was so filled with amazing art and ideas it became one that I still occasional reference for ideas 35 years later.

I will say that Holloway was great at action scenes. Much of the stuff I see in modern books is more like portraits rather than action.

The excrement is hitting the turning air pushing thing. I have been waiting to get to Secret Wars for probably 4 or 5 years and the build-up "Time Runs Out" is pretty crazy. Groups of heroes hunting other groups of heroes, Namor with a bunch of bad guys destroying entire planets to save the Earth and the sense of doom, like none of this matters, because everyone will be dead soon.
They've got my attention.

#1 Homes Edition Boxed Set
This is the one I started with in 1978 (when I was 8). A friend's big brother introduced us to the game, and my parents got me the set shortly after. I immediately started creating worlds. I liked being a god so much that I have continued to create worlds ever since.
