Here's a little bit of the process. It was also pretty fun to interpret characters that were sprites in the game and try to integrate them and make them fit the style.
This is the last (for now) of the illustrations I made recently, trying to learn a bit more about color and light. I wanted to pay tribute to one of my favorite games, "World of Illusion" for Sega Genesis. As with the last two, it was a little difficult to stay close to the character models...

Another experiment practicing with color and light. I wanted to stick close to the character model sheets instead of doing my own interpretation,but sometimes I drift into my own style ,and at one point Dipper started to get some sort of Funko-ish proportions. Thank goodness I fixed him in the end!
Back to exploring color and volume. I tried drawing Rajah, literally sketched him like 200 times, but none of the expressions convinced me and I couldn’t find a good reference,so I gave up miserably. Then I had this weird revelation and decided I could use Shere Khan instead, way more fun to draw !
Another test I did in my quest to learn a little more about colour and light. I was always fascinated by the Flintstones’ cat when I was a kid, and I’d get annoyed every time it didn’t show up in the episodes…it only existed in the ending for the final gag. Where was that cat the rest of the time?
As a storyboard artist, I’m used to leaving things “functional but unfinished,” so I set myself the challenge of creating more refined, fully realised pieces.In this case, I wanted to pay tribute to Bugs Bunny as Brünnhilde in What’s Opera, Doc? one of my all-time favourites.
