My set list from the new wave vs. darkwave room at Nocturno last night.
My set list from the new wave vs. darkwave room at Nocturno last night.
This month's Beatique mix is out now. A little more than an hour's worth of music, including songs from The Smiths, Peaches, Charli xcx, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and lots more.
Two photos. The first shows Catturd tweeting: Name one US inspired regime change that hasn't ended in absolute disaster The next tweet shows him posting an AI illustration of Khamenei turned into a pile of dust. It says "I'm eliminated."
Two tweets. The first shows Laura Loomer promoting her show, where she says "A message has been sent that we are not interested in going back to the way politics were prior to Donald Trump, prior to 2016. We don't want warhawks. We don't want any more Neocons. We want American First. Period. End of discussion." The next tweet says: Today is a great day. Our military is amazing. @PeteHegseth is an absolute killer. Now you see why the Deep State worked so hard against him. Itβs great having a Sec War who has Infidel literally tattooed on his body. He actually gets it. God bless him.
Two tweets. The first shows Will Chamberlain tweeting: The Republican Party is no longer the party of regime change and endless wars. If you want to be its standard-bearer that is a non-negotiable position. The next tweet shows him posting "Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is dead." The tweet has a USA flag attached.
Two tweets. The first shows Gunther Eagleman tweeting: "Warmonger Lindsey Graham just rushed to Fox to advocate for U.S. involvement as soon as he could. He is also pushing for a US-backed regime change in Iran. I would like to renominate Graham to get a one-way ticket to the frontlines of every war he wants America involved in." There's an attached video of Graham speaking. The next shows Eagleman tweeting: UST IN! President Trump is HARD AT WORK all weekend after the massive strikes on Iran! Heβs already on the phone with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte! Trump is a machine!" There's an attached video of a news segment about the war in Iran.

Last weekend was MLS opening weekend in L.A. and @losojos.bsky.social & I checked out the tailgates before each teamβs match. Enjoy the words & images at the link below.
If your taste in music lives at the intersection of 1980s alternative, 1990s Britpop and 2000s indie- and if we know each other IRL, thereβs a good chance it is- then this is your week for new music.
Weβre essentially living in a world where the messages on our phones are, βThereβs nothing good happening, stay home and scrollβ and βThe world outside is scary, stay home and scroll.β So, to see crowds of people out and about for any reason feels like a small miracle.
New Peaches is out today! Plus, new albums from Apparat, Mirah and Night Ritualz
New album reviews: Mariachi El Bronx, Charli xcx, KMFDM and more. www.beatique.net/mariachi-el-...
My latest investigation, and first in a series for @towcenter.bsky.social

In the past year, we found a news-appearing network called Metric Media filed more than nine thousand Freedom of Information Act requests across all fifty states.

βAnother adult living in the home was outside and begged the agents to let him take care of the small child and was refused."
Instead, an agent βtook the child, and directed him to knock on the door asking to be let in in order to see if anyone else was home, essentially using a 5-year-old as bait.

Hey, L.A., I'm DJing Friday night, playing darkwave and modern post-punk in the Synthwaves room for Club Underground x Synthwaves at the Grand Star in Chinatown. Details here, plus a few more recommendations.
Attention So. California:
I hate to admit it, but Iβm kind of into the Santa Monica Pier. Itβs antithetical to the everycity aesthetic that has been taking over urban environments since the dawn of Instagram. Itβs loud, messy and brash in a way thatβs unique to greater Los Angeles.
Plus, an expanded reissue of Woo's 1982 debut album. Essential for fans of analog synth sounds. I talked to Clive Ives of Woo.
New music you should hear:
Xiu Xiu Xiu Mutha Fuckinβ Xiu: Vol. 1
Sylvia Black Shadowtime
Sleaford Mods The Demise of Planet X
Tigra and SPNCR Black Rice
Thank you!
Lots of David Lynch screenings happening in L.A. this weekend and early next week. I put together a roundup with what I could find that still has tix available. More in here too, including Selena exhibition at Grammy Museum, L.A. Record Fair, Shannon Shaw live and plenty more.
First DJ gig of the year. Back in the new wave vs. darkwave room at Klub Nocturno in L.A. Lots of Sextile, Boy Harsher, French Police and more. Posted my set list. Link below.
"That is a fundamental difference between Vice President Vance and I," says Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in response to JD Vance's defense of the ICE agent who shot and killed RenΓ©e Good in Minneapolis.
"I do not believe that the American people should be assassinated in the street."
Everything about Dry Cleaning feels extremely human and completely antithetical to the artifice and conformity of the algorithmic world. They're a weird band in the best possible way and Secret Love is their weirdest album yet. www.beatique.net/album-review...
