Ben Garant as Deputy Travis Junior on Reno 911
Sometimes for no reason I think about how on Reno 911 (2003-2009), Ben Garant wears a flack jacket over his cop uniform. He’s the only one who does, and it’s part of his character’s portrayal as a paranoid, over-armed redneck. Now, a couple of decades later, that’s how every cop I see is dressed.

🚨 Documents leaked to me reveal a federal watchlist of American protesters suspected of being Antifa - including its supposed leader.
"This is the wildcard area. Anything could happen here," says the meteorologist, circling our house on the map.
Emma Stone saying “Miss Piggy is playing Miss Piggy.”
What the hell are you talking about, Emma? Miss Piggy hasn’t played Miss Piggy in like 25 years.
Haven’t listened to it in a while, probably won’t anytime soon, but that one verse on “Monster” is still really damn good, sadly.
Okay yes, I was the one who predicted that the Stranger Things episode “Sorcerer” would probably involve driving a truck full of volatile explosives through the Upside Down, because the Duffers were almost certainly fans of the classic 1977 William Friedkin film.
And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, was destined to wear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow.
"Families wishing to contact the [Trans Youth Emergency Project] about their situation can do so... by filling out the[] intake form. The national project offers family navigation through one-on-one phone calls to help identify providers unimpacted by restrictions, as well as travel grants of $500."
Captain Marvel Adventures #19 (1943). On the cover, Captain Marvel and Mary Marvel are flying above a snow covered landscape. Santa Claus is sitting on Cap’s back with his sack of toys, and they are both waving at the reader.

Despite everything that’s been sliding backwards, these kids don’t remember a world where gay pop icons were required to write straight songs. And the less they have to know about the mens’ room story, the better.
The Youth is posting about “Last Christmas” (“old folks don’t know it’s gay!”), and it itches my pedantry (everyone over 40 knows George Michael was gay, but he sure wasn’t doing love songs about men in 1984), but ultimately, much like Queer Icon Prince, I think this is a “the myth is better” thing.

My Christmas presents from @anotherelle.bsky.social and @jdkrach.bsky.social are telling the greatest story in TTRPG history.
I’m a little late with a Christmas name, but I heard this one on the Majority Report today, and I was like oh, that’s definitely me. 🎅🏻
On the other hand, it also bothers me that the surviving Muppeteers outright said that they were retiring Scooter as a character because he was so inextricable from Hunt, but Disney eventually recast him anyway.
You can call it recency bias, but Kiernan Shipka takes Longlegs to a whole other level with just one scene.
And Rowlf and Scooter aren’t even around (not that I cared for their later recasting either, but their absence as characters is even more glaring)!
A tie from Mandy (Panos Cosmatos, 2018): Bill Duke and Richard Brake.
As a Gen X muppets fan, I have complicated feelings about A Muppet Christmas Carol. Don't get me wrong, it's very very good. But the honest truth is it hurts my heart a little bit that the most fondly remembered muppet project is one that was made after the deaths of Jim Henson and Richard Hunt.
Given your profession, that simultaneously seems to fit and offers no surprises.
"The #1 movie when you were 10 years old is how your 2026 is going to go."
I honestly don’t know how to take this one.
