Spent last week at Sunlit Residency in Ithaca, NY. The residency honors Dr. Su-Je Lee Gage and her dedication to human rights and social justice. I feel so lucky to have had the week to reset and re-focus on my creative work.

At each reading or event while launching this book, I set the bar on the floor and knew I’d be happy if 2 or 3 people showed, but at each and every one, I was stunned to see seats filled. I am forever grateful to my publisher and to everyone who has been a part of this journey so far.
No Offense is officially one year old. I’ll never forget the feeling of holding this thing I worked so hard to create in my hands for the first time. This last year has been a whirlwind.
Headed to a writing residency next week and looking for book/essay recs on the theme of “control,” especially in relation to gender, mental illness, death/grief. Can be very specifically related or broadly related. I’ll take whatever ya got!

Not to mention another officer clapping as the man is being shot.
It's particularly galling to call for ICE to wear body cams when Renee Good's murder literally recorded the whole thing on his phone. He was so confident in his impunity as part of that organization that he recorded and allowed for the release of footage of him shooting a woman at point blank.
I have been working out fairly consistently for the last 5 weeks or so and I am sorry to report that it does in fact have a positive impact on my mental health. 🙄
For me, one of the most disturbing parts of Renee Good’s murder has been the photos from inside the vehicle. Blood everywhere among her and her family’s every day mundanities: a sticker-covered water bottle, gloves, kids toys. It was just another day, and then it wasn’t.
There is nothing that is happening in 2026 that’s not built on a solid base of white supremacy. If you are outraged by ICE (and you should be) look closely at how the police behave in your own community. It started there.

"They killed my wife. I don't know what to do," the woman says through sobs in the footage, with a damaged SUV visible in the distance behind her. "We stopped to videotape, and they shot her in the head," the woman cries. "We have a six-year-old at school," she says, almost unable to breathe, as a chaotic scene in which federal officers prevented at least one doctor who was on the scene from assisting the shot victim unfolds. "We're new here," the distraught woman says in despair.
You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today.
This could be you.

I actually honestly don’t understand the whole AI thing. Not in the like “oh I’m so cool I’m the only one who doesn’t care about this suddenly popular thing” way, but in a “genuinely have never used chat gpt or ever felt the want/need to” kinda way. Like…ppl want to be less creative? Couldn’t be me.
