The Hobbit illustrated by Jemoma Catlin - this is the red slipcased special edition, with the slipcase on the right (red boards with a gold decorative pattern, and a white inset box with the title, author and illustrator information). On the left is the book, with red cloth boards and a gold foil Smaug dragon stamped on it taking up the entire front board (and continuing across the spine and rear board, not visible in this photo).
89. The Hobbit special edition, illustrated by the fantastic @jemimacatlin.bsky.social (HarperCollins, 2013) - signed by her at Oxonmoot that year. The illustrations are perfect, I recommend this to anyone planing to read to their children. Still in print (standard edition), if you want one!

I'm a long-time fan of Jemina's illustrated Hobbit - it's different from a lot of the "standard" Tolkien artists, and works so well for the children's book it really is.

The magic ring is clearly a game-changer for Sam (and for Bilbo, let's be honest here). It adds an extra twist to the whole thing - Sam stays locked in through the daring escape first from Gollum & then from the Goblins.
