This week, I was subjected to a transphobic hate crime. A cis man waited until we were alone before shouting slurs at me.

This is the real-world consequence of pundits claiming trans women as a threat to women's safety.

That rhetoric doesn't protect women. It emboldens people like him.

Social media is certainly bad for children and young people, but we must remember that Brianna was murdered, in the context of anti-trans rhetoric and hate coming from many, incl. printing presses. This move to brand social media as the issue allows politicians & papers to cleanse their incitement.

A statement from Melissa: I can't wait to get started as a Co-Chair of the North East Young Greens! It's upsetting to see that the regional Young Greens has been inactive by in large for the last couple years, so I hope to use the limited time that I have within the Young Greens to really kick the regional Young Greens into life, and try and get young people in the region excited to be part of the committee next year. I am hoping to use some of the experience I have in my local party of Gateshead and nationally with committees in the senior party to help in this endeavour. As some of you may know, I'm very keen to be involved with all your Young Green local election campaigns; and this will continue into my second term.
