Whatβs worse β a cold clam pizza or a reheated clam pizza
I donβt know the backstory, only that the first part of Alyiaβs quote frames it the other way βI know (the) council put forth a proposal to not be at the table or making those decisionsβ¦β
Not saying press release comm. was appropriate, but both bodies need to make intentional efforts to improve.
I like the way Alyia framed it here: βhow could we be sharing information as we build our contracts? Make sure that we are in alignment about the fiscal pressures we're facing . . . Partners have to be direct or else you're not building a good partnership."
I hear you. Delivery is important. But again, council knows itβs locked itself into CBAs that are now obligatory spending and so how else does one communicate that given they acted pursuant to a 2021 council ordinance to reach the CBA and the majority of the budget is personnel.
And council is certainly getting constituent pressure on this. Can attest, as it came up in the campaign many times (more oversight w/r/t schools). I see it as a proposal to go down that route, but I also think there are clear, documented, opportunities for increased comms outside a rigid structure.
And I think council knows CBAs are expensive. To me, anyone paying attention would have seen the CBA coming. And known how expensive they are. So to suggest only a 1.5% increase, given public calls for step increases etc., just shows how disengaged the two bodies are with each other.
Iβm not here to argue this, as clearly there are seemingly universal strong feelings about SB. But to me, council canβt claim to be surprised. They passed the ordinance to allow CB, have done so with multiple unions, and SB said in β24 they would do this and all put it in their budget priorities.
I have some City things, but then commission, DRCA, Navy, and firm events. Thatβs before Elissaβs items. Not a contest. But Elissa keeps reminding me this is supposed to be my year of reducing complexity but I keep finding ways to do the opposite
I have no excuses for not attending the two things on my agenda this evening. But Iβm taking Joeβs cue and trying to practice this giving-myself-grace thing people keep trying to tell me about.
Counter question, would you consider me a normal person? π

Somehow we started watching Fallout and Iβm like no thanks.
I messaged the instagram account weeks ago to ask who was behind it and got silence. Now I see why.
As a Christian, it is refreshing to see a politician skillfully use our faith to counter the Christian nationalist agenda.

We could make a reality TV show about the dynamic life of an Alexandrian. It would definitely include budget theater, bike lane drama, and a stroll through Ewald park.
What else would need to be in this show?
I donβt mind giving interviews but am always curious how it will get spliced up. Inevitably the 10 minutes we spent talking on camera turns into 10 seconds or less of a choice sound byte you didnβt even remember giving
Thereβs going to be another news story on the Braddock bike lanes. Just gave an interview to WTOP on behalf of DRCA. I wasnβt expecting video so I didnβt have a chance to put my eyeliner on.
For a second there I thought we were going to see a βQAnonβ
Overall: frank has been around a while and has a calm and genial demeanor, but in my opinion:
- his independent moniker is a fig leaf
- his compromise qua compromise approach is unproductive
He at least acknowledges existence of long term plansβ¦but lacks the vision we need to see them through.
Ignored the premise of Ryanβs question on protecting federal workforce and responding to threats from Washingtonβinstead, answered by saying AI is coming for jobs.
Ryan also gave Frank a softball question, anything he regretted. Didnβt expect him to say his vote on the waterfront, but that blunder cost him his reelection (among other things). He apparently does not regret needlessly delaying our beautiful waterfront for a year with his βcompromiseβ vote
~2/3 the way through it starts to sound like Fannon is running for school board (re The specificity of what he wants to drill into with efficiencies and cost allocation).
Frank does highlight the importance of transit oriented development near metro. But at the same time holds the view that Braddock bike lanes should not be a thing.
Building must happen near metro but thatβs not where it must only happen. We need to keep building out our transit infrastructure too.
