I think if somebody who has the required knowledge uses it to create a preliminary draft which they then check against the original and correct as needed it's harmless though I don't see much use. I fear that in current climate it won't stay at that level.

People certainly do it. I don't think it's desirable as it's only going to accelerate the comprehensive deskilling of intellectual labor that's ongoing. Eg it's going to bring us closer and closer to complete reliance on machine translation and people not understanding primary sources directly.
