I worked under a first sergeant in Texas that would have had Platner doing stupid shit like mowing dirt, sweeping the walls, and an unearthly amount of pushups every day until he got that ink removed or he was booted out. And that man was definitely a demon from Hell. Still he had standards.

Yeah the tattoo regs have always been worded like "Any tattoo that was sexist, racist, or anti-American is forbidden." and then we had stricter rules around visible ink. But because service members come from all walks of life there were books or posters with pics of what not to get.

He got a Nazi tattoo, he frequents anti-Semitic podcasts and posters, he says racist and misogynistic and homophobic shit on reddit...reality called, he's a wannabe Nazi. And, as I frequently point out he's also not equipped to lead anything. You could spin in a circle and point and do better

Mind you, I don't believe a word of Platner's story. He knew what it was and he got it on purpose is my bet. But even if I somehow believed that lots of active duty white guys had no idea what imagery is racist, I know there's a fucking book or poster in their unit to tell them what not to do.

I once treated a guy with a massive back piece that was straight out of Geiger, think overlapping skulls in a mobius strip winding around a cross. Someone asked him if he planned to add flames and he said "No, that's KKK shit" and he was a white boy from Alabama. Come on now.

I served, you're absolutely full of shit. The poster or book with forbidden tattoos is older than either of us. And I was a combat medic, saw plenty of infantry with ink and none of it racist symbols. Because they wanted to stay in the military.
