βFoβ sure!β
With all their adventures, they would have used a lot of batteries π
Spoiler: in some episodes, they had the old models of #distress #beacons: the good old 121.5 transmitter on the international distress frequency π
My SAR Team was assisting Ridge Meadows SAR over the last 4 days trying to rescue some snowshoers on Golden Ears.
There are a lot of lessons to be learned, but mostly that the margin of safety for winter travel is much, much smaller than in the summer.

Happy Global Search and Rescue Day to all SAR volunteers! September 10 is especially relevant in BC as on this date in 1982 the first rescue from a COSPAS-SARSAT signal in the world took place! The satellite based world wide system was built by Canada, Soviet Union, France and the US; It was during a test that a activation was noted from a crashed aircraft in northern BC. Three people were rescued from the crash, the pilot spoke about his experience at SARscene 2007 in Victoria 25 years later. Even with recent developments in alternative alerting systems the COSPAS-SARSAT continues to play a major role in responding to air, marine and ground incidents.
Today is "Global Search and Rescue Day" which commemorates the first activation of the COSPAS-SARSAT system which happened in British Columbia, Canada on September 10, 1982 when a plane crashed in Northern BC.
Three people were rescued from the crash.

#GalileoSARmeet2025 - A *VERY* SPECIAL and UNIQUE GUEST to complement the Norway's contribution to our event! βI am finished. Now itβs game over.β Norwegian fisherman who was rescued in February 2025 in Northern #Norway will travel to Prague to give a testimony of his adventure ! On Sunday February 2nd 2025 early PM, a small βsjarkβ fishing boat was operating close to SΓΈrΓΈya in the Finnmark. The weather was ugly, with waves up to 5 meters high and freezing cold water. The boat suddenly capsized, throwing the two fishermen overboard. Both tried to swim and to hang up to the bow, and Jon-Atle could barely reach to the distress beacon and activate it... #Galileo satellites (integrated in the #CospasSarsat network) forwarded the alert to the Norwegian Rescue Centre (JRCC Bodo) in about a minute. By chance, a helicopter of the 330th Rescue Squadron was training in the vicinity and could reach the position indicated in 10 minutes, while it normally would have taken an hour. They almost immediately found the wreckage. By that time, Jon-Atle had been about 20 minutes in the water. It was only a question of minutes before he would die of hypothermia. Suddenly he heard what felt like βthe choir of angelsβ: the powerful engines of the helicopter approaching. βI suddenly relaxed, even if that sounds weirdβ, said Jon-Atle β βI realized it might end well after allβ. Jon-Atle was airlifted to the nearest hospital, where both fishermen recovered completely. Today, while he could try to hide and forget this traumatic experience, Jon-Atle is on the contrary telling his adventure, advocating the vital need of being well-equipped. Earlier this summer I presented at a symposium hosted by @euspa.bsky.social and @sargalileo.bsky.social where I heard how the most recent updates to the system are working, including meeting Jon-Atle, a Norwegian fisherman who was saved by the modern Galileo satellite system.
Sure, I am sending you my coordinates by Direct message :-)
Hello @tomdune.bsky.social :-D

Indeed. OSNMA (Open Service Navigation Message Authentication) has been released +/- 1 month ago.
But it might of course take some time before the industry incorporates the service in their production lines ... and that retrofit is done on existing equipments...
Introducing Galileo Open Service Navigation Message Authentication (OSNMA). Online webinar on 1 September, starting at 14:00 CEST.
Meet the Speakers - Galileo OSNMA Webinar
Weβre excited to share the outstanding lineup of experts who will be joining us for the upcoming webinar on the new Galileo Open Service Navigation Message Authentication (OSNMA) service.

And finally, what was probably the most impressive display of this #GalileoSARmeet2025 : the Flight Formation of 11 #SAR helicopters (seen here on take-off from Prague-Kbely).
Biggest SAR formation ever - and definitely it was not to be missed !
Then, some additional views of the winners, on their
