If you’re a bigot, you are probably frightening someone in your life that you “love” who hasn’t come out yet. The reason they seek out openly queer people is not because we are manipulating them into being queer, but because they ¡already are!, and we are being the family you could never be.

The reason we often become “woke” activists is because we know other trans people are out there who are scared. Especially if their family scare and don’t understand them, they need to see people fighting for them and affirming that they deserve happiness and love.

Like it or not, treating people who have gender dysphoria with gender affirming care is the medical standard… because it works!! No matter what you believe ontologically about sex/gender, trans people who get treatment get a chance at happy life. We want to live normal lives.

The hate and misinformation I see about the trans community on the daily upsets me not only because it is factually wrong, but because myself and others who have known joy for the first time in our lives since transitioning are now looking at losing the very thing that saved us.

The reason I am so vocal politically is because there are a lot of vocal BAD people who want to remove trans people from public life entirely. I will not be silent as ignorant bigots mock and strip rights away from trans people, or anyone else.

The supreme Court hearing on the Tennessee trans youth care ban will have broad-ranging effects on trans people going forward. If upheld, the care bans currently in place will be added to by even more restrictive bans. Since the precedent is set, banning care for adults on the grounds will follow.

Growing up queer in the South means slowly realizing most of the people your community talked poorly about and you thought were crazy Satanists are actually just the sweetest lesbians you’ve ever met.
