I've found myself drawn to rewatching movies and shows I loved as a kid. I enjoy revisiting them with a more mature perspective and laughing at things that are silly in hindsight. Recently rewatched this gem.
The life-and-death consequences of the profession were driven home for me in the North Carolina swamps, policing the human and mechanical flotsam from a helicopter collision, which claimed many souls, including several of my mates. No asterisks, just real shit.
The choice to serve is made for varied reasons. When the ultimate outcome is untimely death the circumstances of the act do not lessen the impact of the sacrifice or its meaning found by others. To attempt to cheapen it thus because of politics says all that needs to be said about one's character.
