Curing cancer, etc would obviously be an amazing breakthrough but I don't want to parch the earth to get there! AI backers operate with the assumption that they will always be able to live comfortably & don't care at all about the lives of others.

Like I'm dubious that it will ever do anything we wouldn't be better off paying a human a living wage to do, but if that's possible the focus should be on less resource-intense ways of getting there.
