It continues to shock me that the person who wrote the most negatively impactful study of trans health care of the century consistently shows that in so doing she learned nothing about trans people and our healthcare. Everything she spouts is bullshit that a basic understanding of our lives reveals.
Oh perfect, a device that almost seems custom built for clocking trans people. Surely that won't put us in danger at the same time as multiple state governments make our presence in public spaces illegal, even going as far as to authorize citizen bounty hunters. Surely.
NCIS is the most popular example of this I can think of. One of the main characters is a Mossad agent and it v much drives home the "Israel is fighting global Jihad in partnership with the US" narrative. Ziva is badass and hot and unhinged and I think the way many first encountered Israel in media.
The NYT coverage of this is horrendous. Which is natural because the article was written by Azeen Ghorayshi, who was in no small part responsible for creating the climate that has enabled this.

In a parallel way to how a systemically racist justice system is the means by which a racial caste system is enforced in the US, occupation and security objectives are not an alternative to apartheid but the means by which it is enforced while continuing the veneer of a commitment to equal rights.

I haven't been happy with everything she has done vis a vis the trans community. But she is in such a tough position. There is no one right way to stand up for trans people and I believe she is trying earnestly even if I believe she is wrong sometimes. She deserves respect not deadnaming.
I just read the op-ed. Polgren calls out the right's use of language of disease and contagion to describe trans people, conveniently ignoring how the NYT has been a main locus of spreading fears about "ROGD."
Yeah this op-ed is extremely rich coming from the same publication that 3 weeks ago published an article by Ross Douthat that started: "In recent years, certain supporters of transgender rights have developed a public language of militancy and conflict." NYT is playing coy but playing the same game.
Can confirm. My Bluesky feed is pretty sanitized. My friend showed me her Xitter and there were multiple viral tweets using the freeze frame of his limp body on stage as react images for memes.
