I find it extremely difficult to believe that anyone experiencing what honestly looks like the apocalypse is going to regard it as a form of liberation or that anyone responsible for it actually cares about how Iranians regard it at all.

So we get the US using our airbases for airstrikes on Iran, while we at home are told that it's fine, they're "defensive" airstrikes against missle installations. You know, like the schoolchildren. We're not participating the US-Israel clusterfuck, just enabling it. Enough to get our hands dirty.

The oil-rich repressive gulf states are big boys with their own airforces, more than enough money to finance a defence budget, and can look after themselves. It's also worth considering Trump doesn't need our airbases, the US has plenty of bases in the area. In effect, it was a loyalty test.
Well, a couple of counterpoints. I think first and foremost describing the middle east as "our backyard" is a bit of a stretch. Our interests are the military bases we have out there, so in effect we have a chicken and egg situation where our military is being used to defend our military.

It's been an ongoing problem. Yes, it was the Tories, but mostly Michael Fallon is responsible, ending subsidies for gas storage in 2013 "the country does not need them" and "the market will provide."
We're stupid because we allowed private corporations to extract the gas in the North Sea to sell on the international market. If we allowed more to be extracted, it would not help the UK one bit. It should have been secured as a strategic resource for UK use.

Absolutely, nothing is perfect. It's also the argument against the death sentence - it is impossible to always guarantee the correct outcome. The jury is there to reduce bias and the chance of corruption, and introduce the view of society, which justice is meant to ultimately serve.

It should be noted that the UK airbases in Cyprus are a target for Hezbollah proxies in Lebanon due to the UK allowing the US to use them for aircraft strikes on Iran. I understand many Cypriots are not happy, and I do wonder how much longer we'll be allowed bases there now.
The only announcement has been the HMS Dragon, which will be deployed to Cyprus to aid in its defense. Two aircraft carriers are being readied, but for no specific purpose ("just in case"), no deployment has been announced. Anything else is fantasy to ease your conscience.

Not quite, it's not defensive screening. They're for "defensive" operations bombing missile depots inside Iran. Personally I'm hard pressed to tell the difference between a "defensive" and "offensive" bomb. Remember, the school children that were killed were classed as a missile installation.

I think one argument against direct comparison would be that laws develop differently under different systems, so British law under a Dutch legal system could lead to radically different outcomes?
