How can I save the world without a cafe in my neighbourhood that will let me sit on one coffee while the whir of my laptop contributes to the vibes between 3pm and 6pm on a Monday

Government passes retrospective law codifying debt for beneficiaries The Government has passed a controversial law that will codify more than $63 million in debt owed by beneficiaries with ACC claims.

What the fucking fuck??
They voted down and amendment that would excluded victims of abuse in state care.
They are Tory scum

Was there a Zoom meeting where the US told the entire Western alliance what would happen to them if there was any mention of anyone having violated Article 2 of the UN Charter by engaging in the crime of aggression

Sleeping rough is a particular type of homelessness - and it is currently increasing at record proportions due to this govt's cuts to emergency housing. Systemic factors like policies must be a focus - because we're all accountable and politicians can, and do, change them.

International Women’s Day 2026: Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls. | UN Women – Headquarters On 8 March 2026, rally with women and girls around the world to demand equal rights – and equal justice to enforce, exercise, and enjoy those rights.

PSA: UN International Women's Day is coming up (Sun 8 Mar) yay! The 2026 theme is *not* the transactional bullshit slogan "Give to Gain" declared by IWD corporate usurpers. The real theme is badass: “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls". 2 weeks to prep! www.unwomen.org/en/news-stor...

Every official tweet is a nod to child abuse OPINION: Why is a social network under criminal investigation for child sex abuse material treated as a legitimate podium for government messaging?

Excellent article from Andrea Vance today - few quotes

"There is a weak argument (usually put forward by white men, those least likely to suffer abuse online) that staying on X somehow moderates the awful. You can’t dilute a cesspool."

MSD have been delaying their December benefits data release due to data processing issues but they shared headline numbers yesterday. If the data is correct, this is a huuuge increase. We now have nearly 1 in 7 adults on a working age benefit. Link in ALT. (🧵 1/n)

Youth unemployment rate is now over 16% (1 in 6). The underutilisation rate - young people wanting work or more work - is 38% ffs - 190,000 young kiwis. That's nearly half of the total. It took a fking decade for youth unemployment to recover last time. Same plan this time. No plan.

Benefits are too low, so debt cycle exacerbates.

$802,105 pw [$41.8Mpa] was taken from income support & sent directly to creditors in Aug 2025 [nom 45% rise in 4.5 yrs.]

Women [bc more families w children] are approx 2x as likely to have wages or benefits docked through attachment orders as men."

Spent a decade working for the Jobcentre. By the letter of the law could have referred many for a probable sanction. Unless blatant pisstakers, rarely did, as at worst, some of them would've ended up dead. Making it out of the house for a chat with me was often achievement enough

We could print with only the cheapest possible filament and get our whistles down to like $0.008 per whistle BUT there are joy advantages to really colorful whistles.

I ended up not voting in the flag referendum bc I argued myself into the position that "our incumbent derivative flag that's truthy about our ongoing colonisation is.... maybe ideal?"
An official Laser Kiwi would've unleashed appalling levels of self-identification with our imagined community in me

Ppl here talking about the tunes which yes, NZ's is bad... but as lyrics go, our "give peace a chance, keep us off your world map, nothing to see here" plea - even in the English version - beats anybody else's "we wanna win, roar" stomper hands down.

The Government is using the ACT Party to normalise a ‘fire at will’ culture in New Zealand, and we have to resist it!

Workers First Union is asking Aucklanders to take a stand and join us in a public protest outside Minister Brooke van Velden’s electorate office (35 Saint Johns Road, St Johns, Auckland) on Thursday 5 February at 11am. We need a strong turnout and lots of energy to show that our communities will not accept laws that take away our hard-fought rights while rewarding ‘gig economy’ employers like Uber who are taking advantage of our (already) weak employment laws.
