The event organisers who did all the legwork? If we’re serious about intersectionality, it’s worth asking these questions. Who gets to be in the room matters. /4

But I was often too busy in March doing that work to attend events myself. Even if I had time, there were many I couldn’t afford tickets to, despite earning an above-average salary. Who else is being excluded in this way? The women who baked the IWD cupcakes? /3

When I worked as a researcher at Parliament House, I spent years providing data on women’s representation in parliaments to politicians across the political spectrum. That material was used in many of their IWD speeches. /2

Dear International Women’s Day event organisers - Many IWD events feature excellent speakers and important conversations. But when attending those conversations comes with rock concert level ticket prices, even for livestream options, access becomes limited. #IWD2026 /1

Women 'let down by the system': Simon Gordon was gynaecology's open secret Complaints had been made about this gynaecologist for years. Only when hospital management discovered that Four Corners was looking into his practice, did it start investigating further.

Gynaecology's open secret. Surgeon repeatedly removed women's tissue & organs for “severe” #endometriosis. Pathology showed little/no trace of it. Multiple complaints by clinicians & patients to hospital & AHPRA. Nothing happened. Our 7-month #4Corners investigation. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-02...

“Too often, Parliament behaves as though the reckoning has passed. For the many survivors of parliamentary workplace harm, it has not. … It is a system that still struggles to hold power to account and too often exacerbates the trauma of those who have already been harmed.” /2

Setting the standard? Parliament still doesn't take workplace harm seriously With "many" complaints of workplace misconduct at Parliament House being made, how seriously are they being treated? Jo Tarnawsky writes.

Having also spoken out publicly about my mistreatment in parliamentary workplaces - which in my case involved sexual assaults, bullying and discrimination - I endorse every word of this excellent article by Jo Tarnawsky in @womensagenda.bsky.social

No more silence: Treat sexual harassment as the safety hazard it is Aligning WHS and equality laws can improve safety by preventing harassment and shifting responsibility from individuals to employers.

No more silence: Treat sexual harassment as the safety hazard it is

“In 2023 - 2024, the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) resolved just 314 sexual harassment complaints. Compare that to the estimated 2.7 million Australians affected.”

Sadly not many people seem very interested in setting the standard in Parliament House in 2026, regardless of gender

As I told @canberratimes.bsky.social, sexual assault, sexual harassment, bullying and discrimination in parliamentary workplaces are not a laughing matter.
