As someone who is currently leading the docs effort at my org, The point about the logic of the system needing to make sense has been huge for me! It has helped inform whether or not a component and or its variants are even necessary so that the system is as lean as possible.

and b) making sense of them from a logical design standpoint bc more than likely a good amount of "established" design decisions were made in the short term + in the context of the feature work and not for the long term or context of the product as a whole. 2/2

I think one of the things that doesn't get emphasized enough in design system work is working with feature designers to figure out what the rules and guidelines are for components and patterns to not only a) make sure that they make sense with how they are used and established in the product 1/2

I think learning Figma + prototyping is a tangible thing that can be taught and that's why so much focus goes towards creating courses for that specifically and we can't blame people for thinking that being a Figma expert = great UX designer. 2/2

I truly don't know how aspiring UX folks are supposed to learn what the job actually entails bc it's not teachable in a course. 1/2
