If you haven't switched to Linux, the best time was few months ago and the second best time is now.
Spoilter alert: we're not abandoning Windows. Windows in a VM under Linux will work faster than on bare metal. Check out my video to learn more!

I'm still only at the exploring stage but haven't tried any non-Linux tools with it. What 3D stuff did you try? Maybe possible to get it working with WINE emulation? Else perhaps a dual-boot.

the worst thing for me is. Imagine you lost a bunch of expert carpenters and you had to learn carpentry from scratch with no teachers, no youtube. Thatβs what the industry is currently doing. just getting rid of the folks who know the craft, and retaining the folks who know how to parasite

From what I gather MATE is only for die-hards of an older version of an alternate interface who insist on not changing and Xfce is the lite version if you're like "I want Mint Linux but I still want to do way more tinkering and customizing than is necessary".

You're right though they could definitely add "Beginners go here!" and "If you don't know what this is you DON'T want this version" labels.

If you want Windows-like, you want Cinnamon. That's the most like the interface you know. Look up some videos to compare if you want to be sure. (GNOME is more like a cross between Mac and mobile and MATE is something weird you don't want)

NEW: A Ubisoft union rep at Solidaires Informatique told me that around 1,200 workers went on strike yesterday to protest a five-day RTO policy and ongoing cost-cutting at the French publisher.
The international strike will continue today and tomorrow at Ubisoft studios around the world.

Which afaik is something that has already been extensively proven to be an effective method in detecting more cases. I think that is very different from the horrific and irresponsible things described in above article.

Only human error if a doctor always makes the final call and it is ONLY additive in that it detects cases which otherwise could have been missed. A doctor must still examine every image, obviously. The only risk in that scenario is wasting time verifying false positives that turn out to be nothing.

I think that usage is not that it makes any final decisions but that it catches patterns human eyes have missed and leads to more possible cases being caught, to be confirmed by doctors. No risk of error there. Pattern recognition is something these algorithms do well, decision making is not.

Visually illiterate gamers don't know what to make of stylized art and think anything cartoony is the same art style, but realistic graphics that almost always look the same get a pass 100% of the time.

As opposed to ultra-detailed realistic games which all look identical and make up 90% of games? What is with people and their weird allergy towards anything stylized? Apparently there's only allowed to be 8 or so cartoony-looking games at any time.

I can barely even get my Windows PC to go to sleep at all. It snaps straight back to log in screen almost every time, takes like 10 attempts before it stays in sleep mode. Easier to just close everything and turn it off.

Either way, you might have more luck asking for tips in the AnimState discord if you describe where the friction is, get some different perspectives. Some stuff is just going to be subjective though, and you do have to just get used to some things working slightly differently as with all new tools.

In my experience the people most likely to get what you're confused about are people who have also used other tools like Maya and 3dsmax before but switched to Blender later. People who have only ever known Blender won't have the necessary context to see the problem.

Making a custom keymap for Blender

Imo the best middle ground is changing only a couple things (like camera and transforms) for muscle memory and leaving everything else default. That way you can still follow tutorials, but won't go insane switching back and forth between different tools. Like so: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qfg4Y4rbsXs

I think most game dev teams underestimate how damaging slow workflows are to the ultimate quality of their game.
If it takes 5 minutes to launch the game and see your changes, I think your game is going to be MUCH worse than the alternate timeline where it took 1 minute
