I became Senior VP at a multi-million dollar company at age 26. My salary was $600k. This was in 2018.
How did I do it?

Blacked out lines

CEO (my dad) promoted me to SVP.
There are no gimmicks. There are no shortcuts.

Always nice to be reminded that Limp Bizkit, like ICP and Axl Rose, have good left-lib politics

Reddit post of the Aye, I Could Do That meme.

From Know Your Meme: "Aye, I Could Do That refers to a scene in Lord of the Rings: The Return of The King in which, approaching the final battle, Gimli says, "I never thought I'd die fighting side by side with an elf." Legolas replies, "What about side by side with a friend?" to which Gimli replies, "Aye, I could do that." The scene was turned into an Object Labeling exploitable to show two groups, usually opposed, fighting against a common enemy."

This post is a Bears fan saying "never thought I'd upvote a Packers post." "What about upvoting a fuck ICE post" "Aye, I could do that."

Our government's atrocities are bringing together Bears fans and Packers fans.

The Overton window has fully shifted to β€œdo you deserve to get shot in the face by government agents if you don’t get out of your car when asked?”

We are so lost if this is what the paper of record considers a valid discussion.

There isn't a single problem "solved" by edtech that couldn't be fixed with smaller classes led by well-paid teachers given real academic freedom

1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

I think one of the better, more subtle tributes to Robert Redford's life is the string of utterly iconic female co-stars who've come forward to eulogize him; each of them take-no-shit types like Fonda and Streisand, and every one of them without a single bad thing to say. A model for male behavior

I want to reiterate my deeply held belief. One of the biggest mistakes we are making with this tech is anthropomorphizing it and treating it like it is actually "reasoning". It's not doing that. And it cannot be held accountable. It's a machine.

The uv build backend is now stable, and considered ready for production use.

An alternative to setuptools, hatchling, etc. for pure Python projects, with a focus on good defaults, user-friendly error messages, and performance.

When used with uv, it's 10-35x faster.

I could really use your help looking for Senior++ Technical Writer roles or intermediate++ Developer Relations roles. I'm looking to stay in Germany.

I'm also considering building up a freelance pipeline but realistically full time work makes my visa situation way easier.

A kid who is good at the kind of math a calculator helps with, is good at *the only kind of math that dyscalculia affects*

As kids, that is pretty much the only kind of math a kid is ever exposed to

In reality, a person can spend the rest of their life doing math and never doing that kind of math

Elon Musk’s Starlink Expands Across White House Complex Trump administration officials said the company donated the internet service, saying the gift had been vetted by the lawyer overseeing ethics issues in the White House Counsel’s Office.

Hi, I'm the guy who used to oversee the federal government's agency IT telecommunications contracts. This is extremely bad. There is absolutely no need for this. Not only is it a huge security exposure, but the simplest explanation for this is that it is meant to be a security exposure.

Trump administration cuts $400 million in federal funding to Columbia <i>This is a developing story. Check back for updates.</i>

Columbia called the cops on studentsβ€” *like trump wanted*β€” & this is how Trump responds.

One should never comply with evil, but if even your complicity with evil will not save youβ€” & it will notβ€” then why comply?

Do not comply; not in advance, not at all. Fight for the right thing, no matter what.

Cutting Middle Management Is Costing Your Capacity for Change Over the last year, the tech industry has seen a wave of layoffs targeting middle management. Executives at companies like Meta, Shopify, and Amazon have framed this as a push toward efficiency.

Katie Leonard (one of our eng managers) recently wrote a πŸ”₯killerπŸ”₯ piece on the current obsession with cutting middle management in the name of "efficiency".

"Efficiency is not the same as effectiveness. An org running at 100% capacity is brittle, not agile."

"Let's figure out why men become Nazis" isn't a particularly rewarding game, in my opinion. Yes, everyone has reasons for what they do, but the answer to "why does a white man embrace a political system in which white men alone hold power" is fairly self-evident.
