Hampstead and Highgate Express front page, Friday February 27, 1970: masthead and top story headline: Does a wampyr walk in Highgate?

Today we celebrate the fruits of one of the finest headlines ever to follow Betteridge’s Law, because it’s the 56th anniversary of “London’s most extended satanism flap”, when about 100 people broke into Highgate Cemetery to stake a vampire 🧵

Why an American-style health-care system would be bad for Britain A US style healthcare system may be politically desirable for some, but it is a far from perfect system, even for the insured

If you think the NHS has problems, wait until you see the chaos across the pond.

It’s a complex system in US - Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, TRICARE - too often the sick fall through the cracks and either stay sick or lose a lot of money – or both.

SUV drivers could face extra charges for driving in London TfL are also poised to increase 20mph zones and cut speed limits on the capital’s fastest roads later this year

Time to price them off the roads everywhere, by all means possible.

Every day for literal years at this point, I've come on the internet and seen two type of content: content telling me young men are lonely and angry and need to be listened to, and content of those men saying and doing the most fucked up things imaginable.

I'm over it.

Lowering speed limits helps to reduce emissions Waka Kotahi says it's lowered speed limits to 80 kilometres per hour on about four percent of New Zealand highways as part of the Road to Zero safety campaign. The changes have frustrated many drivers...

A quick reminder that lower speeds don't just save lives, they cut fuel use and therefore emissions - nearly a quarter less fuel consumption by dropping from 110kph to 90kph. Similar with dropping from 50kph to 30kph in urban areas too.

I know I’ve got some Labour local gov’t types following me, so I want to say this clearly so that you can share it internally as appropriate: I will never again vote Labour while these policies, or Wes Streeting, are in place. I will not vote Labour at any level because of this.

The only thing worse than an administration run by people with video game logic is that they're BAD at video games.

I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public.

I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.

Reaching net zero by 2050 ‘cheaper for UK than one fossil fuel crisis’ Climate change committee finds move to renewable energy would also bring health, economic and security benefits Achieving the UK’s net zero target by 2050 will cost less than a single oil shock and bring health and economic benefits while insulating the country against future costs, the government’s climate advisers have forecast. Eliminating the UK’s reliance on fossil fuels by adopting renewable energy and green technologies, such as electric vehicles and heat pumps, would be the best and most cost-effective option for the future economy, the Climate Change Committee (CCC) found. If development necessitates disturbing a graveyard (in the uk) what is the most ethical answer? Bulldozing the graves? Disturbing the dead without looking at the skeletons?
I beleive telling their stories is the least we can do if we are going to disturb them. Archives are part of that

“If you want to look at the economics, then look at all of it. For example, I've never seen a calculation of how much capacity, how much GDP, a poorly-paid immigrant working in a care home frees up for the family and relatives of all the people there, by taking on their caring responsibilities.”
