A local nimby in my neighborhood is trying to raise $17K to do a traffic study to fight an H-GO development on Elbow Drive.... #yyccc
The provincial government has just imposed the largest property tax increase on Calgarians in history.
In 2026, Alberta is increasing its share of your property tax bill by 21.05%. Nearly 42% of every residential property tax dollar now goes to Province.
The fact that rents and home prices have been falling in Calgary despite growing population, and rising rents elsewhere in the province shows how effective eliminating exclusionary zoning has been on addressing the housing shortage here. #yyccc

I think it is inevitable there. Neighborhoods evolve. At the same time it is discouraging to hear the recommendation that they limit improvements to the public realm to keep the things crappy and cheap. I think we can aspire to improve neighborhoods AND protect affordability.
Back to the old days of #yyccc spending all it's time reviewing zoning applications? Let them focus on big picture stuff (like critical infrastructure funding).
Today #yyccc was told that a full repeal of blanket rezoning puts over $800 million in federal funding at risk, including $251 million in transit funding. In addition, it will jeopardize #yyc being awarded its share of $20 billion in transit funding. We quite literally can't afford to be NIMBYs.
Yikes - I made the very rare decision to ditch the bike for the bus today and was feeling lazy about it. This helps....
I've always like this experimental inverted neighborhood in Dover. Homes face on to a treed pathway with the roads behind.
So this is interesting… 👀 if you’re behind this, dm me. I promise anonymity takebackcalgary.ca
If I were new to Calgary or just starting out, no question I would look at Forest Lawn/Dover etc. Also likely a great investment as people will eventually wake up to the walkability and proximity to downtown.

Exactly - lots of people argue pedestrians need to look both ways before crossing. The reality is, cars won't stop until you actually step out into the crosswalk. You will wait for ever otherwise.
Hard to see how things will improve while @calgarypolice.bsky.social continues to suggest pedestrians in marked crosswalks share the blame for their own deaths. "I think it's a good reminder that as we're driving and as pedestrians we need to be aware of our surroundings."

A toddler is dead in Calgary because we allow these jacked up SUVs with very minimal forward visibility. The drivers of these can’t see people in the crosswalk.
When will these be banned?

Can we also talk about the murder wagon the perp used to kill the baby.
The front end on that vehicle is designed to kill people - and the cops ignore the modifications.
I can't get over how horrible this is www.ctvnews.ca/calgary/arti... #roadsafety
Road violence is a political choice. How much carnage will our leaders tolerate before they take drastic action? www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Calgary NIMBYs looking to bring back exclusionary zoning. #yyccc
Canada dropping f-bombs for getting caught cheating in the pickleball of winter Olympic sports sure isn't a great look.
Trump undermining NATO is a major victory for Russia. Why would they help reinforce the organization's raison d'etre now?
Culver City, California recorded zero murders in the most recent year of reporting data. But at this Department of Justice staff meeting, that number seems much higher.
I cannot vote for Democrats because their excessive regulations hamper free enterprise. Here’s why I’m revamping my company’s entire operations to appeal to Donald Trump’s ego.
We can't even afford to fix our neglected critical infrastructure - but lets build new ski jumps! #yyccc globalnews.ca/news/1166314...
Farkas once called the olympics "the ultimate politician vanity project”. Now that he's mayor, a political vanity project suddenly sounds pretty good. #yyccc #flipflopfarkas

ahhh.... I didn't catch that. Thanks. A bit of a relief for sure...
Taco trade Monday morning?
ICE is now responsible for 66% of the homicides in Minneapolis this year.
