What kind of candidate running for a statewide seat in Alaska announces her campaign in January, around 4:00 in the morning, Alaska Time, when most Alaskans are still in bed?
That timing was meant for an East Coast audience, not Alaska.
Itβs been obvious from the start whoβs running her campaign.
And thank you, Colleen, for relentlessly beating the drum on this.
This is embarrassing, shameful, disgraceful, and timid.
Thereβs a way to answer this question.
But βno commentβ isnβt it.
Is Maryβs heart truly in the race?
Is she in it to win it? Or going through the motions?
Thank you.
And thank you for including this line in the story, available at the link above:
"The mural is based on a work by Ray Troll, a Ketchikan-based Alaska artist."

5/ Jack was convicted of draft evasion for reasons enumerated in the ruling above.
You may find it worth the time to talk with him about the case and what it means today to be a conscientious objector.
4/ From a September 1971 ruling: "... he claimed exemption from both combatant and noncombatant training and service, but was prepared to perform civilian alternative service if called."

3/ Jack refused to be drafted and went to court, arguing that he was a nonreligious conscientious objector, based on his ethical studies and beliefs.
2/ He is mentioned in this April 2023 thesis by Lily Ruth Spar of Wesleyan University β¦

In the late 60s, as a student at Wesleyan University, he took a public stand against being drafted to serve in the Vietnam War.

Amen and thank you, Colleen.
I appreciate you and your work.
I would also like to hear from Mary, in her own voice, without parroting consultants, advisors, or poll-tested messaging, about where she stands on the latest bombings of Iran, without support from Congress or the U.N. Security Council.
Ditto!
Thank you, Tryntje.
Mary, in your own voice, without parroting consultants, advisors, or poll-tested messaging ...
Tell us more about what you're *for*.
Also tell us where you stand on the latest bombings of Iran, without support from Congress or the U.N. Security Council.
Rich was one of my favorite curmudgeons, along with Pete Carran, David Postman, and Bob Tkacz.
Tough. Irascible. Principled.
Pains in the ass, in a John Lewis good trouble kind of way.
Dave Donaldson too, more in a style of iron hand inside velvet glove.
I am grateful that our lives intersected.

Ms. Bondi may hope that what worked in 1944 will work today in a setting where, again, a presiding officer fails to wield a gavel to preserve decorum and order.
1/ Ms. Bondi may be taking a page out the playbook used by pro-Nazi defendants in the 1944 federal sedition trial in Washington, DC, "United States v. McWilliams."
They created chaos, overwhelmed a judge who let things get out of hand, and turned the court into a circus β

I wish I had *you* as my history professor back in the day.
What a great opportunity for learning β not just history, but how to navigate current resources and potential hazards of All Things Online.
