Sometimes it is also a sense of panic, a simple reaction to initial exposure to the economic machinery that operates reality that causes a very understandable panic that can result in reactionary forms of politics mistakenly perceived and presented as leftist.
Most of the time it's in a past case sense, ie "I used to be right wing so now I feel a pressure to over-compensate to make up for previously reactionary views." Sometimes it's just "I am presenting myself as the most radical one here so people will see my anti-sex politics as radical leftism."
I was a little skeptical at first about being critical of ultra-leftism out of a fear of divisiveness, and that divisiveness is definitely still something to avoid, but I really have continuously experienced how people who present themselves as ultra radical are often covering very reactionary views

Perhaps a relevant quote to depict this - the cartels in question are in constant war, technically market war but episodically exploding into literal sometimes world war. The hosts being parasitized are in a way more comparable to a soldier to be sacrificed if it advances towards victory.

Like, imagine if the parasite's life depends not just on extracting from their host, but also growing bigger and fatter than its conspecific parasites in other hosts.
This is also why monopoly is the inevitable end-drive of capitalism.
Part of the reason for this distinctively impractical drive is that capitalism requires not just profit, but an increase in profit (to defeat opponents in competition). They believe they can find more 'hosts,' and thus it's worth it to defeat the competition.
