The word β€˜growth’ has been hijacked by economists in service of big money. It is political ideology obfuscated by higher mathematics.

The only group that reliably benefits from what is described as β€˜growth’ is the rich.

That left wing parties don’t see this is one of the tragedies of the age.

It's not an idea - it's an excuse. An excuse to launch attacks. The suggestion that unarmed Iranian civilians should rise up (only to be massacred by the heavily-armed IRGC) is a vile piece of gas-lighting.

How about nationalised AI? What is to stop the UK government (or any other) from setting up an AI company to provide public service to the nation. Given that intelligence is now another utility like water or electricity, why not make it a public good.

That comment’s not what it seems. It’s a fundraising message aimed squarely at the mega donors of the American Right and their Great Replacement/White Nationalism.

Ukraine is showing why electrification is key to Europe’s energy security At this year’s Munich Security Conference, leaders repeatedly warned that a new era of geopolitical instability is reshaping global security. Energy was central to that discussion, with governments em...

Even if global warming was not such a pressing issue, renewables are not only more affordable and less price-volatile than single-use fossile fuels, they also increase a country’s resilience in armed conflict.

This is exactly in line with George Lakoff’s analysis of language and metaphor on the political right. It explains a lot.

The current system is a total car crash. So depressing.

This is the whole story - the engine of all the madness we see happening. Unless and until it's reversed we're screwed.

Facial recognition in smart glasses to dox people? Yeah, a bunch of us warned shit like this was going to happen, and it's going to enable some really bad shit. We need to fundamentally reconsider what constitutes "public" and "private" in our society, and we need to have done it several years ago.

What they are trying to achieve is pretty obvious - i.e. donations and support from fossil fuel interests. πŸ€‘

I wish that was true. But sadly it’s not.
Capitalist organisations have learned that it is far cheaper to buy political influence than it would be to eliminate their externalities.
The system has no defence against this and in fact it’s getting worse.
The endangerment finding news, for example.

These are all necessary but sadly not sufficient unless we also have system change to stop environmental destruction being profitable (and unpunished).

Your article is a very good one. There needs to be a concerted effort to come up with better counters to all the right-wing lies and pseudo-theories. This is a war we’re losing and most of those on the losing side don’t even know it’s happening!!!

Mornington Crescent: a rant.

Or: how a goofy word game about train stations is the key to how devout causes can ruin people's ability to have a conversation.

Stand clear of the closing doors, let's begin.

Great drying November 14, 2025; hundreds, if not thousands, of people throng four shrines in Tehran, the capital of Iran. It is a Friday, but these crowds are not for the us

There is no technical fix for this problem. Barring a miracle, Tehran will soon be uninhabitable. Drought is the first horseman of the Climate Apocalypse.
