The word βgrowthβ has been hijacked by economists in service of big money. It is political ideology obfuscated by higher mathematics.
The only group that reliably benefits from what is described as βgrowthβ is the rich.
That left wing parties donβt see this is one of the tragedies of the age.
It's not an idea - it's an excuse. An excuse to launch attacks. The suggestion that unarmed Iranian civilians should rise up (only to be massacred by the heavily-armed IRGC) is a vile piece of gas-lighting.
How about nationalised AI? What is to stop the UK government (or any other) from setting up an AI company to provide public service to the nation. Given that intelligence is now another utility like water or electricity, why not make it a public good.
That commentβs not what it seems. Itβs a fundraising message aimed squarely at the mega donors of the American Right and their Great Replacement/White Nationalism.
Even if global warming was not such a pressing issue, renewables are not only more affordable and less price-volatile than single-use fossile fuels, they also increase a countryβs resilience in armed conflict.

This is so important. Is there a weblink for these graphs that I can post?
@georgelakoff.sfba.social.ap.brid.gy
This is exactly in line with George Lakoffβs analysis of language and metaphor on the political right. It explains a lot.
tired: 10x engineer
wired: 1x engineer running 10k agents
The current system is a total car crash. So depressing.
This is the whole story - the engine of all the madness we see happening. Unless and until it's reversed we're screwed.
Facial recognition in smart glasses to dox people? Yeah, a bunch of us warned shit like this was going to happen, and it's going to enable some really bad shit. We need to fundamentally reconsider what constitutes "public" and "private" in our society, and we need to have done it several years ago.
His football team depends entirely on immigrants and he himself is an immigrant in Monaco. Does that make him a hypocritical racist?
What they are trying to achieve is pretty obvious - i.e. donations and support from fossil fuel interests. π€
I wish that was true. But sadly itβs not.
Capitalist organisations have learned that it is far cheaper to buy political influence than it would be to eliminate their externalities.
The system has no defence against this and in fact itβs getting worse.
The endangerment finding news, for example.
These are all necessary but sadly not sufficient unless we also have system change to stop environmental destruction being profitable (and unpunished).
Their children and grandchildren will curse them.

Your article is a very good one. There needs to be a concerted effort to come up with better counters to all the right-wing lies and pseudo-theories. This is a war weβre losing and most of those on the losing side donβt even know itβs happening!!!
There May Be No Turning Back This Climate Crisis
As warming breaches a critical threshold, scientists fear cascading consequences.

Claude trick: check in markdown containing the design philosophies of great engineers. Then, when I'm chatting with Claude I can @docs/ref/sussman-sicp.md to bring in Gerald Sussman or Joe Armstrong or Rich Hickey's POV.
Here ya go! I elicited these from Claude, then gave them a quick once-over. So they're not hand-crafted, but they do the job. github.com/gordonbrande...

Mornington Crescent: a rant.
Or: how a goofy word game about train stations is the key to how devout causes can ruin people's ability to have a conversation.
Stand clear of the closing doors, let's begin.

There is no technical fix for this problem. Barring a miracle, Tehran will soon be uninhabitable. Drought is the first horseman of the Climate Apocalypse.
Been there. Itβs terrible. But it will pass and your lovely child will emerge to delight you.
World is entering an era of 'water bankruptcy'
Countries have spent beyond their sustainable water budgets for so long that critical assets are depleted and the world faces huge economic, social and environmental costs

Indeed @drpauldorfman.bsky.social
Nobody in the mainstream press seems to mention this hideous geo-political risk on nuclear power.
