Popular use of the phrase “Judeo-Christian” was manufactured starting about 30 years ago to put a fig leaf over racist and antisemitic attitudes like this

D.C. TAXES UPDATE: There's still no final resolution in the fight between D.C. and Congress over whether the city has decoupled itself from some of the Trump tax cuts or not. Tax-filing continues as normal, but there's still a chance it could be stopped and delayed.

This gets to the heart of how MAHA is inextricably tied to MAGA. If hazy nostalgia is your only north star, there’s no angle to prioritizing the theoretically good anti-chemical, anti-Big Ag stuff ahead of the quackery

ICYMI, we’ve heard now from several reliable sources that federal agencies may remove a substantial chunk of the 15th St NW protected bike lanes near the National Mall.

This is some BS.

Join us on Friday for a protest ride.

Update: The ACLU of D.C. and other groups say ICE is defying a December order from a federal judge requiring immigration agents in D.C. to get a warrant or have probable cause that a person is a flight risk before making an arrest. They want the judge to enforce the order.

Season of the Swamp | Graywolf Press New Orleans, 1853. A young exile named Benito Juárez disembarks at a fetid port city at the edge of a swamp. Years later, he will become the first indigenous head of state in the postcolonial Americas...

My first book with @peoplesbooktakoma.com’s Indie Press book club was this hazy, dreamlike, and brief novel imagining Benito Juárez’s exile in 1853 New Orleans. Much as I appreciated it, I would have gotten more out of if I had more background in Mexican history www.graywolfpress.org/books/season...

These Haitian meatpacking workers may be deported. They voted to strike anyway. | Food and Environment Reporting Network This week, hundreds of thousands of Haitian migrants faced an uncertain future as the Trump administration fought in federal court to revoke their legal status and deport them.

Courage looks like Haitian meatpacking workers suing JBS for discrimination, despite Trump, Noem, and Big Ag stoking deportation fears and uncertainty. We're proud to represent them.

Now, workers from many backgrounds at the Greeley plant have authorized a strike.

An Instance of the Fingerpost An utterly compelling historical mystery set in England in the 1660s. Oliver Cromwell's short-lived republic is a thing of the past, and Charles II has been ...

I’d seen recommendations of this regularly over the years. Each of its four narrators goes on too long, but it’s a clever snapshot of 17th Century English science and politics presented via a murder mystery. I was skeptical it would stick the landing, but it did

Many are rightly noting that clicks alone is a terrible way to make coverage decisions. But it’s also just not true these cuts reflect reader interest. Some of the Post’s most popular writers were cut. The most read stories this week were written, edited and designed by people who lost their jobs.

In 2016, when Post reporter Jason Rezaian was freed after spending 1.5 years in Iranian prison, Jeff Bezos personally flew him back on his private plane. Bezos used it as a photo op.

Now, Bezos is leaving people he laid off overseas in a lurch.
