This organization will be using its mutual aid fund to defray the cost of new licenses ) and new birth certificates, eventually) for trans Kansans! lgbtqks.org/donate/

We are a mere flurry away from humiliating one of the two Big Space Perverts.

Somebody has to know someone who has a VHS tape filled with episodes of “Rich Hall’s Onion World”, right? It has to exist! @museumofhomevideo.bsky.social maybe you can help?

Attention Chicagoans: this thread details local politicians who have received funds from the landlords who approved that horrific early morning ICE raid on a South Shore apartment complex
@violetbfox.bsky.social and @tugboatcity.bsky.social have you ever seen any curling zines? Of everyone I know I figured you two would be the best to ask.

Voting is open for the annual snowplow naming contest. And “Abolish Ice” is one of the options.
You know what to do (vote): chicagoshovels.org
At the bottom of a test (some math problems involving subtracting integers visible from the other side of the paper) the prompt is “Draw an excited dog.” There is a cute drawing of a dog on her hind legs wagging her tail.
When I’m making a test, if there’s any extra space at the end of it I ask my students to draw something. It’s always delightful. (This was from a quiz on subtracting integers.)
Nation's largest nurses union repeats calls for ICE abolition, pledges to do "everything in our power to vote out any elected official who supports funding for this all-out assault on the health, safety, and civil rights of our people."
How many did you get to visit?
@unraveledpress.com @aaroncynic.bsky.social Would you mind signal boosting this?
I’m a teacher and my class is reading “Number the Stars” (a book about Danish resistance to the Nazis.) The theme is how ordinary people stand up for/with each. Can anyone send me or direct me to photos of people resisting ICE? Not so much protests but things like mutual aid, patrols, etc.

Police are incapable of shame and self-reflection.
Police will NEVER be swayed by protests, slogans, chants, signs.
Effectice tactics involve adding complexity, time, and resources to their planning & operational rhythm.
Classic insurgency tactics against a superior force. Classic for a reason.

I follow Ireland’s RTÉ for a brief respite from the dreariness of US news, and it doesn’t disappoint.
Here’s a song I’ve been working on, you can take it and tinker with it:
Boop budda boop boop
Bedoop boop bloop
Boop boop bading bloop
Boop buboop buboop
I’m having trouble figuring out where to go from there.

The Hilton Hotel that refused reservations from DHS officials has now backpedalled and said it will accommodate them. Came after DHS X account posted emails. For years the right coalesced around businesses being able to refuse customers of certain demographics

JAMES MERRILL CHRISTMAS TREE From loes torn hamin Had been fed, looked after, kept still, Meant, I knew— of course I knew - That it would be only a matter of weeks, That there was nothing more to do. Warmly they took me in, made much of me, The point from the start was to keep my spirits up. I could assent to that. For honestly, It did help to be wound in jewels, to send Their colors flashing forth from vents in the deep Fragrant sables that cloaked me head to foot. Over me then they wove a spell of shining — Purple and silver chains, eavesdripping tinsel, Amulets, milagros: software of silver, A heart, a little girl, a Model T Two staring eyes. Then angels, trumpets, BUD and BEA (The children's names) in clownlike capitals, Somewhere a music box whose tiny song Played and replayed I ended before long By loving. And in shadow behind me, a primitive IV To keep the show going. Yes, yes, what lay ahead Was clear: the stripping, the cold street, my chemicals Plowed back into the Earth for lives to come — No doubt a blessing, a harvest, but one that doesn't bear, Now or ever, dwelling upon. To have grown so thin. Needles and bone. The little boy's hands meeting About my spine. The mother's voice: Holding up wonderfully! No dread. No bitterness. The end beginning. Today's Dusk room aglow For the last time With candlelight. Faces love-lit, Gifts underfoot. Still to be so poised, so Receptive. Still to recall, to praise.
James Merril’s poem “Christmas Tree,” written while he was dying of AIDS. 1995.
We didn't survive and thrive as a species because we had warriors or hunters - pretty much every omnivore can manage that.
We did so because we developed Grandmothers, and domesticated Dogs.
Community is what defines us as a species, and every "self-reliant" libertarian shitweasel be damned.
I love that Shudder to Think are still making year end lists.
