How ‘Lectures on Tap’ is reshaping education outside the classroom and at the bars
Love this piece by Lindsay Freiberger for @depaulia.bsky.social on my talk at @lecturesontap.bsky.social ! I had a great time sharing my work on board games with about a hundred guests -- and really enjoyed the conversation afterwards too! Pics by Claire Buchheit

Hello Doctor Who friends! If it is of interest, I was recently a guest on the Every Single Sci-Fi Film Ever* podcast, talking about the Doctor Who movies (Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150AD). I had a lot of fun chatting with Ayesha Khan and Lee Arnott!

It's a personal essay about travel, deer, and the end of a relationship, and very unlike most of the things I tend to write. Thanks also to McKenzie and Julia at sneaker wave for the thoughtful editorial comments!

Words
Reginald Cathcart squirms. His stomach’s disquiet. The past week’s stories have been weak, not up to his usual standards. He can feel the Words’ gurgitation roil. They push against the inside of him. ...
Very happy at the end of the year to have one final short story published - this one's not for the faint of heart (or stomach!): "Words" published in Macabre Magazine:

It’s the first book in the Tabletop Games series that I’m editing along with Aaron Trammell and it would mean a lot if y’all would give it a peep and if you like it talk it up with your friends and community—remember, it’s free!!

Unsettling Catan releases on Monday, so I sat down with Danielle from @uofmpress.bsky.social to do a Q&A on the book.
(the interview was written, but I was sitting down at the time)

Thanks! I'm more interested in studies of monsters as monsters (rather than as aspect of Gothic, per se) & know Simon's work well. :) Appreciate the help!

Hoping for some academic help...updating my readings in a Monsters class & would love a book that focuses on different monsters (zombie, vampire...) from histor/cult perspective. I've used (& enjoyed!) Asma's On Monsters and Poole's Monsters in America, but both are a bit dated by now. Thoughts?

My talk was called "Cardboard Contrafactuals" and explored analog games with alternate takes on traditional history. Thanks to Dr. Scott Diffrient and Chair Dr. Elizabeth Williams for inviting me, and the Comm Studies staff, faculty and students who came to talk and had meals with me all weekend!

Can’t stop the slop
AI slop is ruining the casual internet – it’s also warping how we accept reality.
I’ve been having a lot of fun working on my newsletter, Silicon Sea. This month, I wrote about AI slop and figured out what else to say about it other than “I hate it.”
W/ thanks to @pbooth81.bsky.social for the interview!

Hey #Google, I would happily throw down 1K on another new phone if it was designed specifically *not* to have AI. Don't include it on the searches, don't include it in my texts, don't include it in summarizing my emails. Now *that* I would pay for @developers.google.com @newsfromgoogle.bsky.social
