Wet woodland habitat, good for woodpeckers
Mini sound recorder on birch tree
As part of @sussexornitholo.bsky.social Lesser Spotted Woodpecker survey using passive acoustic monitoring. We put our sound recorder out today hoping for fine weather on Saturday when LSW may be calling & drumming. Nice looking wet woodland habitat in the Weald near Midhurst @btobirds.bsky.social

Restoring conservation grazing to Mill Hill LNR is making a big difference. More to do to knock the site back into its former chalk grassland glory but well done the Hetdwicks (and @southdownsnp.bsky.social and the grazier!)

Disappearance of conservation project white-tailed eagles probed
Police are investigating the disappearance of three white-tailed eagles across the country.
Shocking 'disappearance' of not one but three White-tailed Eagles, including a Sussex-born chick.
Illegal persecution still happening.

We are battling a major pollution incident at our Rye Harbour reserve. Huge nos. of tiny plastic bio-beads have spilled onto the saltmarsh.
Has anyone got experience of dealing with this type of pollution or know the potential impacts? Thanks!

Hi Amy. Thanks for asking. The problem is that the beads are spread over a wide area and it is hard to see them among the saltmarsh vegetation. Very different to the strandline of a beach. There will be trials of different methods tomorrow. If vols are needed we will put a call out.

A beautiful day at Rye Harbour. Sadly having to spend time on our response to the dreadful #biobead pollution incident. Tragically 100,000s or even millions have spilled out across the saltmarsh. As yet the impacts on wildlife are unclear
