🌍Climate’s health impacts of extreme weather are shaped by inequality, infrastructure, extractive economies & governance–not climate alone. In our OA chapter, Amelia Fiske, @bprainsack.bsky.social and I call for multidimensional transdisciplinary research centred on lived experience: bit.ly/3O2CzrA
✨ Our new paper is out!
We explore how people in Austria (2020–2021) understood health amid climate & environmental change—calling for systemic political transformation & decolonial repair.
A great teamwork with Amelia Fiske & @bprainsack.bsky.social!

New paper by the Department of Political Science at the University of Vienna: 'Why ‘inclusive policymaking’ is needed during crises: COVID-19 and social divisions in Austria' 📃
It explores how and why deepening social divisions around vaccination occurred. 💉 #covid #publichealth #scipol

The takeaway: Crisis measures must consider everyone(s needs). An inclusive approach is key—not just for overcoming crises but for future politics, especially amid the #ClimateCrisis.
Crisis politics needs to prioritize social cohesion. Divisive measures, such as separating the vaccinated and unvaccinated, fuel unrest, mistrust, and resistance—creating opportunities for right-wing populist movements, as seen in Austria.
During COVID-19, people were in “social bubbles” and worried about division—regardless of their stance on vaccination. Our study analyzes 127 qualitative interviews (2020–2021) to explore these concerns.
