US Employers Unexpectedly Cut Jobs, Unemployment Rises
February data call labor market stabilization narrative into question
Congrats to everyone who voted for Trump and a Republican Congress "for the economy." This is what you get, a sputtering job creation engine that can't make progress like before and keeps rolling backwards.

This is amazing; am watching on C-SPAN3. If she had a staff member who liked her, that person would've walked up to her 15 minutes ago to whisper in her ear to get out of there.
But no one is protecting her. Any one of these attendees can break the news to her on live tv.

Politicians and journalists on X keep referencing right-wing obscurities as major political issues, and keep framing major political issues of the day from a right-wing perspective. Getting your perspective from X is even worse and is more misleading than mindlessly following polling numbers.

I'm generally in favor of letting people take what they want (with appropriate warnings, limits on false marketing, and purity/quality assurances) but these peptides aren't benign. They blind and kill people, and they will be gray market imports with no assurance of quality or purity.

I think LLMs have uses, but "1,000 targets, including a girls elementary school we hit twice with precision munitions" is indeed representative of their state-of-the-artβand likely a fundamental limitation of the technology.
Sometimes sloppiness is okay; sometimes it's 160 dead children.

The idea is to use the federal government to retaliate against people, individually, for any oppositionβreal or perceivedβto their goals.
Frankly, if this isn't stopped completely and the offenders prosecuted, then I expect the next Democratic admin to do it to Republicans. It's just the way now.

This is the point. If your vaunted trillion-dollar military can't get through a few days of airstrikes because you've consolidated the industrial base so badly, then you don't have a trillion-dollar military, you just have contractors in No. Virginia getting rich

The plan here is to turn an authoritarian theocracy that sponsors terrorism into an authoritarian theocracy that sponsors terrorism and sees no choice but to use every available means of self-preservation.
I dunno, that sounds like a way to make the situation worse, not better.

A fair number of elected Dems, including Jared Polis, appear to spend most of their free-time deeply engrossed in right-wing propaganda (social media, podcasts, etc) which is why this guy thinks that freeing Tina Peters is somehow a big deal for anyone who isn't an extreme right-winger.

Goldman Sachs economists have produced some estimates on the US economic impact from the war, via the channel of oil prices:
If oil prices sustain a $10 a barrel increase and remain elevated through year-end, the net impact would be a 0.1 percentage point hit to year-on-year GDP growth in the fourth quarter.
As for inflation, the baseline expectation is an acceleration in headline CPI to 2.7% in May from 2.4% in January, slowing back down to 2% by December.
Goldman commodities strategists are assuming βno sustained disruptions to oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz.β They continue to see Brent down to $60 and West Texas Intermediate at $65 by the fourth quarter. βBut risks are skewed to the upside.β
For now, effects from other channels -- such as financial markets and broad trade flows -- should be limited, Goldmanβs Jessica Rindels and Pierfrancesco Mei wrote in a note.
Good timing of inflation acceleration for the midterms, thank u Mr President

Yep. Media consolidation under the right-wing is bad, but they've just created a shaky conglomerate that would be tough to run under any circumstance. Removing all the woke from their content will just exacerbate the financial problems, because woke is what consumers actually want.

My local Target has 10 lines of cashier registers, only 1 or 2 of which ever have a cashier and so both have long lines, then 6 self-checkout machines, also with long lines.
Okay, so Target won't pay for cashiers... but also won't pay for self-checkout machines? Uh, okay. Good luck with that.

Paperback edition of There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America by Brian Goldstone
Today the paperback of THERE IS NO PLACE FOR US is out.
It's arriving in a country once again waging warβa country that can spend tens of billions on bombs without blinking, while millions of Americans are one missed paycheck, one rent hike away from homelessness.
Let's take stock of where we are.
