🎾 Did you know that Wimbledon started as a fundraiser?

The first competition was held as a fundraiser for a new pony roller (to keep the grass flat) in 1877 with each competitor paying 1 guinea to enter. It was successful making Β£10.

Margery Booth – opera singer & spy

Born in Wigan in 1905, trained at Guildhall School of Music & sang at Covent Garden, Bayreuth & others. She was contracted to Berlin Opera House and sang there during the WW2 but worked as a spy for the British and even sang for Adolf Hitler
