I'll say more before too long, but for now: Thanks to anyone who has ever read and supported the Post's books coverage.

@jasonzinoman.bsky.social: To judge by this year's nom comics Hart, Maher, Nanjiani, Silverman), Globes are interested in fame, not humor. They arenβt funny, but there's a different standard. Itβs more likely comedy noms are moonlighting at stand-up. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/13/a...
The @latimes.com list of the 101 best Los Angeles movies is a thing of beauty. Hats off and many thanks to @joshuarothkopf.bsky.social; delighted to have cast a ballot, and excited to read so many wonderful colleagues on so many wonderful films: www.latimes.com/entertainmen...
"That his dismal, meandering laundry list of jokes was even nominated was absurd. That it won, perverse." @jasonzinoman.bsky.social

"Imagine if Steven Seagal received the Oscar for best actor β twice."
@jasonzinoman.bsky.social does not hold back his disdain for Gervais (or the award).
This is pretty much where i land. Trying to be all these different movies also has a price. Tho its never less than exciting.
Excellent sweeping essay, EV.
Ha! I recall Arthur telling me, Jason, 20 years after my death, that's when I want them to get the real deal.
I admit the announcement that Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are dead didn't really hit me that hard, but the news that Tom Stoppard has passed is sad indeed. Rest In Peace.
My friend and colleague @jasonzinoman.bsky.social told me heβd seen Louis CK, so I was eager to see his take on what itβs like now (gift link)

βBeauty is not just a means of escapeβ
Me too. Much thumbed thru
THE BURNING CAULDRON OF FIERY FIRE sticks with you. Anne Washburn has the most original apocalyptical visions. Pluribus should hire her.
I hear on good authority that FR is writing a memoir about his 1980s. So maybe there will be some Merrick there.
I am glad to be included on Merrick-related posts.
Thanks EV. Kept thinking about "campaign in poetry, govern in prose." Richard speaks only verse, is terrible at governing. My conclusion: Mario Cuomo knew his Shakespeare.
After the second one, I have to say i see it as much more firmly in the philosophical sci-fi genre. Part are very funny. But it's also so premise driven that i worry a bit. Holding off judgement but agree that it feels assured, esp on a shot by shot level
Wondering about your thoughts on the show
Yes. Suck, Feed, Salon, Slate and you could close the Internet for the day. But Suck used the form best
Man there was nothing like Suck. I loved it so.
I've done them all, including the Are YOU Jewish? It happens so often and you got to keep things interesting.
Joe Bob really is the master. A great critic full stop. He just also happens to be good at counting beheadings and toppessness
Itβs a fun book!
The number of times Ive seen a critic mention the opinion of "purists" and it not result in straw man is very small.
David Cale is one of our great solo artists. Read EV's rave.
Cold take: Last House on the Left gets exactly as much respect as it deserves. And much more than it wants.
NYT critic @jasonzinoman.bsky.social on the contradictions of the Riyadh Comedy Festival: βItβs hard to see [Dave] Chappelle signing a contract to perform at a university only if he agreed to state his pronouns at the start of the set.β www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/a...
Terrific, complex piece by @jasonzinoman.bsky.social about the Riyadh Comedy Festival: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/a...
