Maybe I’ll give it another go. Have you listened to the Dungeon Crawler Carl series yet? It’s absolutely bonkers & a lot of fun (with some sly & not so subtle biting satire).

The young actor Skarsgard who plays Murderbot for Apple TV+ swings a small joyously grinning human child aloft in one hand with no apparent strain, imbalance or emotion. The caption reads: “Skarsgard is just a dead ringer for Murderbot here.”

So…as much as I hate paparazzi, I love this photo/Reddit caption combo. Apple TV+ has done a pretty good job with translating books to TV series (small sample size since I can only think of Slow Horses & Bad Monkey but both of those were fantastic) & I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT MURDERBOT.

Oh good! I’m not sure when in order I read it, but as I remember, it was not my favorite.

My spouse & I just blasted through these & I think I’ll start listening to the serial audio episodes from Soundbooth. I listened to one the other day & the added detail was fun & reminded me of the old radio serials (that I had on tape as a kid).

The audiobooks of these are incredibly well done— I don’t know if they would have grabbed me in text— although the caricature masculine drawl of the MC is a little offputting at first, all the very different voices Jeff Hays plays off are distinctive & addictive.

I hated it SO MUCH. :( Such a great concept that fell so flat (for me).

I loved it but probably because 1) I listened to the audiobook which is nicely done 2) I listened to it when it first came out, so without a lot of OMG buildup 3) I listened to it & the Murderbot series at pretty much the same time so it was tinted by the same rosy contemplative glow.

It’s a beautiful day to walk around outside, to breathe in the scents of soil and sun-warmed grass.
Except the juniper trees are blasting off their pollen like an RNC and now my face & skin & eyes itch like only flaying them open with my nails can relieve it.

I fell in love with this series & suggested it to my book club & found it v.interesting that those who read the books saw Murderbot skewing female. I listened to the audiobooks narrated by Kevin R. Free & so in my head Murderbot skews male despite being vehemently sexless.

I am REALLY looking forward to Martha Wells’ Murderbot adaptation— I think it starts in May on Apple TV. If you haven’t read them yet, please do! We love Murderbot (&ART) in this house.

I was SO mad* at myself for this one— got it in 3 but should have had it on the 2nd but thought Wordle was most likely being tricky & went with a different first letter.
(*not really mad, just annoyed with myself really that I didn’t go with the more likely choice.)

Yes! You start a waterslide inside a 737! They used to have a tank collection outside on the lawn but sadly no longer do. However the airplane collection (some great stories & displays) & waterpark are definitely worth a visit.

I know it’s a typo but I think “headless” is an appropriate characterization of the behavior and the imagery is more fun.
