I remember this! I initially thought the question was about sorting whole rows by X and was confused about why that would change the result. Then I realized what was meant by “sorting” in this case. 🤯 I felt so bad for the OP by the end of it - boss problems are so much harder than stats problems…

I remember the Droid! I had a Nokia 9300, which had a similar structure. I loved that phone and only switched to an iPhone when the ear speaker eventually stopped working. I’d replaced other parts - remember when devices were user-serviceable? - but I couldn’t find a replacement speaker that fit 😭

Having good noise cancelling headphones is definitely a game-changer! I used to have to do so much “environment engineering” when I needed to focus, a lot of which was managing sound. Noise cancelling headphones are also nice for making noisy chores (vacuuming, shredding paper, etc.) less noisy

I sometimes got so caught up in books or drawings that I would accidentally stay up all night. I’d be startled by the birds chirping, at which point I had to decide if it was better to cat nap or just stay awake. I don’t miss the sleep deprivation, but teen me sure knew how to have fun!

I had a similar issue when trying to buy a ticket on my phone. I tried again on my laptop, and I was able to purchase the ticket and get a confirmation email without any issues.

The email I got after buying a virtual ticket said that the event will be “recorded for future distribution.”

I don’t understand how I can remember ad jingles from my childhood but not tasks I’ve completed in the last 48 hours. Work journaling helps, so I try to write things down every working day. It’s best if I do it throughout, but even a just a couple of sentences at the end of a day can help later.

I continued to work with my tutor this year, but I wouldn’t say that I accomplished anything specific beyond continuing to practice. I want to study vocabulary and kanji in a more systematic way next year. I’ve recovered a lot just by practicing regularly, but I want more!

Yes! For clothes, I often buy multiples of the same item to have as many needed for about a week. I also minimize color and style variety for things like shoes and pants. That way, I can have colorful tops without worrying about making sure my pants and shoes match.

From the person: Kristian Williams is on the injured reserve list, so he isn’t on the Broncos current roster. As for me, someone who is not knowledgeable about football, I was surprised to learn that “on the team” and “on the roster” are not the same thing. I learn something new every time I watch!

I read this aloud in the living room just now, and someone I trust to know this said that the Broncos do not currently have a Williams on their roster. This person agreed that NOT having a Williams is a rare thing.

Topics of interest for this call for papers include but are not restricted to:

• Methodological advances in fit assessment, parametric bootstrapping, cross-validation, and/or other frequentist model evaluation methods

• Methodological advances in prior and/or posterior predictive model checking, specification and use of informed priors, Bayes factors, and/or other Bayesian model evaluation

• Methodological advances in minimum description length, normalized maximum likelihood, and/or other information-theoretic model evaluation methods

• Practical applications and tutorials of advanced model evaluation methods

• Philosophy of science issues underlying statistical model evaluation

• Critiques/perspectives/commentaries on statistical model evaluation

My guess is that のに has an element of surprise or something unexpected happening. It’s not surprising or unexpected that a test one had to study a lot for was difficult. しても captures the “despite” meaning without implying that the result was surprising.

My mental to-do list now includes finding a Japanese translation of The Winter’s Tale to see how the “Exit, pursued by a bear” line was translated.

The weather is generally nice year-round in LA, so it’s always a good time of year to stand outside and yell at the sky!

Good luck! I was primarily a bus commuter when I lived in LA, and I found it pretty workable most of the time.
