The Interior Department is rolling back its environmental review regulations and shifting the process to one guided by an internal guidebook. Tribal leaders are worried it could weaken tribal consultation and protections for sacred sites.
Osage Nation says its reservation still exists. But Oklahoma says the reservation was dismantled over a century ago. This week, a judge said he can’t rule on this case but laid out a path for the Nation to move the case forward.
The fed govt has approved an energy megaproject on a site sacred 2 Yakama Nation near the Columbia River. It’s been used by the Yakama people for centuries in ceremonies and for fishing and root gathering–rights the Yakama Nation were promised in treaties.
