25 years ago, @jahendler.bsky.social, web inventor @timbl.bsky.social, and early #AIagent expert Ora Lassila set out their #semanticWeb vision in Scientific American. Listen in on this fascinating behind-the-scenes account of the origins of their work.

With the issues with SNAP, I’ve seen a lot of “just get a job!”
For anyone like that, try this on for size:

Harvey Milk served his country honorably — first in uniform, then in public office.
Taking his name off this Navy ship sends a clear message, and it’s one of disrespect and cruelty.
Unanticipated consequences …
House Republicans just released their plan to kick 14 million Americans off health insurance, slashing hundreds of billions from Medicaid in order to give a massive tax cut to billionaires and big corporations. This isn’t “fiscal responsibility” — it’s cruelty, plain and simple.
Crockett debuts a new game called "Trump or trans," then displays a gigantic placard of Trump golfing
I’d like to join science feed, am a reasonably well-known computer scientist (google scholar: scholar.google.com/citations?us...) also do various interdisciplinary work ranging from health systems to astrobiology … no obvious category… is there a way to join?
I just got the official email from the NSF about the drastic cuts and I think the correct translation is "if you are a young researcher who still wants to do science strongly consider leaving the United States if you can." which, really, is not an ideal message to be sending.
We must fight to save PBS and NPR.
Good point … in fact, a better idea is NY, New England and the upper Northwest can become Canadian provinces.
Gen Wojcik is awesome! She took some time to chat with me re: metabolism and genetics awhile back. Check out her article on the perennial rise of eugenics in Nature here: 🧪
MAGA probably won’t even get this.
This is today! We'll be live at 4 p.m. on WAMC.

I’ll be skipping April Fools this year
I mean
I usually skip it
But especially this year
This whole three months so far feels like a horrible practical joke
While millions of Americans struggle to pay their bills, the GOP wants to let big banks exploit them further. Predatory overdraft fees hurt families that can least afford it, which is why I urge my colleagues to oppose this harmful legislation.

The image is a screenshot of a post on X by a user named Mrs. Betty Bowers (@mrsbettybowers .bsky.social). The post reads: "I learned this week that you can put our troops’ lives in danger, compromise our national security, and violate the Espionage Act. And the government will do nothing. But if you write an editorial for your school newspaper that Trump doesn’t like, you will be abducted on the street and disappear."
This is horrifyingly correct.
chatgpt has fully broken-through to every facet of the corporate environment. I'm spending a not-insignificant amount of my time every week now explaining to people that just because chatgpt told you that something was possible doesn't mean that it a) is or b) even exists
An article on the Defense Department website devoted to Jackie Robinson’s military career disappeared and then reappeared, joining a series of government web pages on Black figures that have vanished under the Trump administration’s efforts to purge government websites of references to DEI.
Makes you more interesting … explains how you get the references on the radio from both us old farts and those young Turks…
Every accusation is an intention.
For WAMC: From scrapping diversity initiatives to pledges to eliminate the Education Department altogether, the Trump admin. has put many educators on edge. With funding on the line, leaders in Mass. say they're working closely with the state AG & remaining vigilant

I’m on three US non-profit boards: a public radio station, a community charity, and a synagogue - all three are being challenged by US budget cuts and/or challenges to programs … I’m on one UK non-profit charitable board supporting science - we’ve not been threatened by any party ever …
George was awesome
Seems to be
To anyone who listened to the round table on @wamcradio.bsky.social this morning you may be surprised at the language I used in excoriating Musk’s access to the personal data, it is because the words I really wanted to use are on a list prohibited from radio broadcasts…
I’m George Takei and I approve of this message.
