For me, what differiated David Lynch as a filmmaker was sound — not his incredible sound design, but that so much of his cinema and emotions and ideas were conjured more from sound.

Not even going to look up who was nominated or won Best Actress in 2016, Amy Adams (Arrival) was robbed.
Complex thought and emotions translated effortlessly, often w/o the aide of dialogue & movement.
Credit is due to Denis, Young, Johansson, Bellemare, & Walker, but that’s only part of it.
My Top 2024 has already changed twice since yesterday, but who cares I’m not a critic.
I like Babygirl, but maybe the biggest surprise is it’s fairly wholesome.

There are currently only 22 films streaming on Netflix made before 1980 and not a single one made before 1960, with the oldest film on the platform currently being PSYCHO. I know I’m a broken record but: buy physical media, support your local library, etc etc
