It feels surreal to know that five years ago, in April 2021, the two of us started making Fishbowl. Even more surreal that five years later, it is going to be in your hands.

I don't say this to disparage, just voicing what I've observed from being in the game for 7ish years now
If you feel like cons are getting inaccessible it's because they are. Table prices have skyrocketed and local cons wanna charge hundreds- as much as a premiere event like AX

I had several years to accrue stock and tabling equipment for small low stakes events, but now folks are expected to roll up with fully formed mobile vendor setups, largely the goods being sold are factory made fandom merch imported from overseas
Anything less than that and you'll get elbowed out

I must stress I did not go to art school either, these were hobby events and game tournaments
While the cost to table is still low the competition to get accepted is higher than ever
I'm proud of the growth the scene has had for sure, but the trajectory in the last 5 years has been staggering

LRP I got into tabling as a student b/c I was lucky my uni hosted small student run cons with free/<$20 table fees so the barrier to entry was very low
Even these cons have now ballooned so much that their AAs are hosting pro artists from LA with full-time booth setups
