Even if it goes fine - that parent is going to *absolutely* have issues allowing their child to get a job, move out, have friends or partners i.e. people introducing new ideas and places into their child's life... whether they're intentionally controlling or passively... now bring in being queer..!

I think the absolute removal of external power structures and points of reference for legality and the bare minimums of 'what is abuse' is the issue - and why it's so dangerous for even good intentions to spiral into abuse through the existing tendencies towards contro

Sadly none of my parents' neighbours were ever the kind to care..! And my extended family willingly aided, abetted, and compounded what was going on even in the face of evidence of physical abuse til the very end

Not to be dramatic but I think 'assumed' in your post could be replaced with 'knew'...

Artificial 'social opportunities' are also a trap. Even my extreme case parents attempted this, and then immediately used the natural disruption to their viewpoints/control as a result as further justifcation for isolation/an excuse to label my attempts to establish free will external 'corruption'

This. Slippery slope, so often glossed over to the outside world and an end to justify all realities and means. If a parent thinks they can provide a sufficient 'educational process' on their back alone - even if they're a trained teacher, which essentially none of them are - they are 100% a risk

Idk - at risk of ranting. Again just am really happy you speak up and to hear another voice on this matter <3 Ty for doing so. And I'm sorry for your experiences. I truly do hope you feel you were able to branch out, shake off chains, and heal in your own time

And that if they do it will quickly become deeply unhealthy and shoehorn in other abuse. I mean my parents were hyperreclusive, neurotic alcoholic/addict conspiracy theorists and covered every other form of abuse in the book too, so I have a polarized perspective. But I do feel it's generally true

It's really just a bottom line in my eyes. That no authority figure should have that much consolidated control for that long, especially one who actively feels so highly. flippantly, or comfortable about their own capabilities to replace the entire rest of a child's world. Even just for a period

Oh, for sure. Again- I think a decent subset truly do have good intentions. But the spiral that allows one to feel equipped to replace the entirety of society, socialization, and schooling by themselves... even from a place of protection... is a dangerous one and *will* lead to isolation and neglect

Doesn't matter if the parent has 'good intentions' or isn't part of the majority using it as a tool to control a child's societal intake i.e. see to their indoctrination - they are going to grow used to having an inhumane level of control over another human that they will never meaningfully give up

I've long maintained that the thought process necessary to lead one to seriously attempt homeschooling - regardless of training, intelligence, or lack thereof - by default mark one as a narcissist and raise a large number of other serious red flags surrounding a child's wellbeing and upbringing

And that was the moment I went no contact for good..!
But I'm thankful, tbh, as it removed a lot of fog and gave me a lot of clarity on earlier behavior from them that I'm still unpacking. Not trying and fearing their judgement is liberating, tbh, and I also feel you in general, yeah...

Mine went from essentially saying I was inhabited by a demon and that's why I was transitioning to one day in the same breath claiming they were graciously trying to accept 'my choice' and then immediately sexualizing me and making lusty comments about me/my body in a really, really disgusting way!✨
