It's only free in Ontario for 65+. So silly.

You can get at 50 if you're willing to pay. Wonder if my drug plan would cover it once I'm old enough.

I know so many people who got shingles in their 40s. All part of the last generation not to get vaccinated as kids.

If a business doesn't have the money to hire a graphic designer, I'd rather see their amateur efforts. Hell, they could lean into "we can't afford a designer yet, but we refuse to use AI, as you can see" as a marketing tactic.

I wish the standard age for shingles vaccine would be lowered. I think it's 50 where I live. Maybe 60.

It helps Ricky Martin hasn't calcified his look at that of his youthful stardom. He's adjusted his style as he's aged and as fashion has moved on. And if he's had work done, it's been very light

Kid Rock is ond of those middle-aged white guys clinging to the so-called glory days of his youth.

People who think chickenpox was an inconvenience got a mild case as kids & haven't had shingles yet. I had a boss who nearly lost sight thanks to shingles. And when my partner had it, his doc said it's hitting people younger & harder b/c pre chicken pox vaccine you got reexposed by kids/grandkids.

I'm unsure how people really think people were downplaying a virus that can kill you, make you go blind, wipe out your immune system for years, and oh yeah come back and kill you a decade after you thought you'd shaken it.

Poster for The Ballad of Wallis Island. Depicts the 3 leads against a seashore background. Tom Basden wears his fictional band's shirt and is clutching a guitar by its neck. Tim Key wears a baseball cap and beige bomber jacket. Carey Mulligan wears sunglasses and a purple, yellow and pink ikat coat.

The log line is "He's getting the band back together."

"A fresh, big-hearted comedy" The Wall Street Journal

I watched The Ballad of Wallis Island last night. It's a charming movie about grief & nostalgia.

The two women characters aren't developed enough. A shame because Carey Mulligan & Sian Clifford are so talented.

Also, I want everything Carey Mulligan wears. Especially that ikat jacket.

(And yes-started a SciArt Café to try it out.🐑)

It's a combo of microblogging and subReddits (cafΓ©s). A Reddit post from a dev said servers are in Canada, and no AI. I've asked for further info.

The difference in researching my current novel vs my first novel is *stark*.

Also, so many sites use Google search for their search function and now they all suck too.

I was looking for a concrete well ring the other day on a resell site. Got jewelry results. Useless.

As Rachel points out on her Instagram, notice that the guy at the front has a Totenkopf on his quarter zip.

That's why Maine Democrats should not let anyone displaying Nazi symbols near the United States Senate

More and more, it feels like the lack of dangerous opposition is allowing Doug to be his most Doug-like self, which is to say, someone who once proposed a Ferris Wheel and a monorail for the Toronto Portlands

Perry: This St. Patrick’s Day, don’t forget Irish music’s anti-fascist roots Dropkick Murphys, the iconic Irish American punk band, are headlining a free block party March 6 near where Alex Pretti was killed by immigration agents, contributing columnist David M. Perry writes.

NEW β€œWe’re celebrating a tradition that is at its core about resisting occupation and maintaining community in the face of horrors. You can’t keep politics out of Irish music. No one should try, for two reasons. First, it’s ahistorical. Second, Minnesotans are ready for a big anti-fascist party.”

The thing about me being a GenAI skeptic is that I am a third gen early adopter. My machine worker grandpa thought computers were the future and had an Apple IIE. I had two Geocities sites. Was on Facebook when it was still Harvard only. You know how hard you have to try to make me hate new tech???

If you're Canadian, you're guaranteed to hear this song at least once per day on those "the best of the 80s, 90s and whatever" soft rock stations thanks to CanCon.

One hit wonder nepo baby.

Mark Carney’s Iran reaction raises doubts about what he stands for In this dangerous world, Canada needs to see clearly what we are dealing with. But we also need to remember who we are.

Mark Carney's reaction to the US attack on Iran, and his subsequent defences of that attack, made you wonder: for all his talk of pragmatism and principles, what does he stand for? And what does he think Canada wants him to stand for? www.thestar.com/politics/fed...

Back in the X Files hey day, did people look for secret signs Gillian Anderson & David Duchovny were really together?

I'm old but I didn't have home internet access until I was 19, so I don't know what fan culture was like pre-1997.

Have super fans always struggled so much with reality vs fantasy?

So, legally I can have capybaras but not tiny pig-like ungulates? Weird.

Handily, javelinas eat prickly pears, which are actually native to this part of Canada.

One year, my grandpa tried to give my grandma a mink coat for Christmas. She was appalled. You see, every year, she'd take work at the mink farm in their busy season, skinning mink for the fur industry. Once you know how they're made, mink coats aren't glamorous. But she did it for Christmas money.

Canada’s AI minister says OpenAI to change ChatGPT after Tumbler Ridge shooting AI Minister Evan Solomon said he made five demands of OpenAI’s CEO in a virtual meeting Wednesday including direct contact between the company and the RCMP.

"Solomon said it is vital that companies like OpenAI have strong safety standards."

We need AI safety legislation, not promises.

We say safety regulations/legislation are written in blood for a reason. Companies will never put safety before profit.

Recap on Carney and Anand on #Iran:

1️⃣ They support the US and Israel's attacks.

2️⃣ For three days, πŸ¦—πŸ¦—πŸ¦— on international law.

3️⃣ Carney: actually, we support attacks "with regret" & it's prima facie illegal

4️⃣ We can't rule out Canada joining in.

Seriously: What will they say tomorrow?

Remember when ChrΓ©tien refused to join the US and UK in Iraq in 2003 because Canadian intelligence was like "uh, there actually aren't any WMDs?" Good times.

My great-grandparents were also tough. One great-grandpa was a coal miner who became a bombardier in WWI, then a quarry worker. Another was a furniture maker. Another was killed in action in WW2. Another was a leather worker. One great-grandma worked in a munitions plant. Another in a pin factory.

One grandpa: Truck driver at the quarry where he'd started as a teen shoveling coal.

Other grandpa: Various blue collar jobs, the last at an auto parts plant.

Do grandmas count? Because one worked at a mink farm & later a meat processing plant. And the other at a furniture factory.
