Had some fun with posca pens.

January was for code; February became the "Month of the Style Guide"
Underestimated the work, but the visual plan is finally solid. Swapping out boxy placeholders now so I can share real gameplay soon!
In the meantime, some rough sketches and experiments.

Show must go on
#Sketching some ideas.
It was a lovely sunny day in London.
I went outside to a cafe and doodle a bit.
Join my #gamedev journey. And follow me.

If I can finish the first pass for the visuals at the end of February, hopefully March will be finish the demo month.
It's exciting and scary to be on the visuals side.
I had to draw some fire sprites for today.
But instead I drew that.
My mind wants to go back to programming.
Wish me luck!
It's been a while since I drew anything.
I'm back. After a few days for warmup then hopefully I'll be back on track with the game dev.
Watercolor portraid of a man. Highly saturated colors used on a loose sketch. Mostly blue and earth hues are visible.
15 min sketch with watercolor.

I've made a little device that takes a 2 button #MSX joystick on one end and poops out a USB gamepad on the other side. There's an auto-fire option that can be (de)activated by holding down one of the fire buttons and rotating the stick a couple of times.

I'm doing some 2 tone value studies and watching/not watching Tv :)
Instead of on-demand TVs, I choose cable. This way I dont spend meaningless time on doom scrolling netflix menu.
Instead I watch many funeral and retirement home ads. Still better than Netflix menu.

Lately I'm studying atmospheric perspective.
I guess I need to make 100 of these with different colors so that this become my second nature when painting/drawing.

Vivien and I worked on a storage system for her watercolors. It's the first time I ever did something like that. It was a great learning experience and we're quite happy with the result.
Get some background info and the design files on my blog: jlucke.com/blog/waterco...
Some sort of billboarding but when you layer those with a bit of distance and a bit different angles you get the parallax fx .
Left one is the scene, right one is the what camera saw.
Working like this is a bit brain melting experience.
instead of setting up the scene like this, writing a shader might make more sense.
But not now.

Art test for a potential game.
i'm looking for a style that I can produce relatively fast and looks nice.

I've decided to share my sketchbook from time to time.
I usually carry it with me all the time and make some quick doodles while travelling on underground.
And when the sketch finishes i just write down the name of the stop.
This project is in Unity.
I'll need to write a few shaders and change how things work here and there but I'm confident that I'm on the right path.
Also I'm learning Unreal on the side. Feels like a fun little quest alongside development.
Iβve realised that I really enjoy drawing sprites and building scenes out of them. For my own projects I want a process that keeps me motivated, so 2.5D art will be my main style from now on.

Some work in progress from my game development.
This is some sort of concept art. Not functional but built in engine. Maybe some sort of panorama.
I had a lot of fun while playing with this scene.

I'm not happy with my shading on this.
But today is Unreal day. I'm switching from Unity to Unreal and I've dedicated my Fridays to this.
I hope I can squeeze some time for shading tests.
Making art is too addictive!
I'm trying to consistently create artwork that would belong to the same world.
To achieve this I've add a layer for my notes. If I approach things in a similar way in my next drawing I might create similar style.

I used the same sketch and redo the line art and coloring but with clip studio paint this time.
The vector layer, being able to overshoot the lines and then cut excess parts with one flick is amazing.
Also fill tool is on different level.

I've used procreate for this spaceship drawing.
Next, I'll remake it with Clip Studio using vector for line art.
I hope using vectors will help next time.
I'll make a video about my experience.
Follow me.

Finally I'm back to drawing.

Digital painting of a stylised jelly fish with bright florescent colors.
Some tests with my new Huion tablet display.
I really loved the surface texture and feeling of the pens.

Todays warmup. I'll have more clean lines and better perspective one day.

Ugh @unity.com making bad decisions again. Update 3.13.0 of the Unity Hub, when making a new project you can only connect it to Unity Cloud, there is no option to disable it and create a local only project. I hope this is just a bug! discussions.unity.com/t/hub-3-13-0...
Iβve been quite busy lately with all the usual life stuff.
Still, filling a page with random thumbnails helps me stay focused and reminds me of what Iβm working towards.
